Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Facilities Engineer with strong HVAC expertise to support operations across our five Bay Area sites. This role combines hands-on system ownership with broader facilities responsibility, ensuring reliable performance of building infrastructure that supports laboratory and office environments. The Facilities Engineer will oversee maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of HVAC systems and contribute to the operation of other critical systems including backup generators, centralized vacuum, and house gas supply. The ideal candidate is comfortable working across multiple system types, coordinating with vendors, and supporting a high-uptime, safety-focused environment for resident teams. This role works closely with a collaborative and experienced operations team and regularly interfaces with resident scientists; a proactive, service-oriented approach and strong interpersonal skills are important for success.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on HVAC systems.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical components of HVAC systems.
  • Monitor and adjust system controls to optimize performance through the BMS Systems.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance of generator systems, lab vacuum systems, and lab gas supply manifolds, and carry out troubleshooting with support from external vendors when needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
Qualifications:
  • 5-Year Journeyman Certification or equivalent experience
  • EPA Universal Certification required.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints and technical diagrams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with HVAC systems in laboratory or commercial settings
  • Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Work Environment:
This role involves working across multiple facilities, requiring travel within the Bay Area. The position may involve exposure to varying temperatures and requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Off-hours and weekend work may be required on occasion. How to
