Job Description
Fire Sprinkler Designer - Relocation providedPosition OverviewWe are seeking a detail-oriented Fire Sprinkler Designer to develop hydraulic calculations, layout drawings, and specifications for commercial, industrial, and multi-family projects. The Fire Sprinkler Designer will ensure systems meet NFPA standards and local codes, collaborate with engineers and contractors, and produce accurate shop drawings and as-built documentation to support project delivery on time and within budget.
Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare sprinkler system layouts, riser diagrams, and fixture schedules using AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software.
Perform hydraulic calculations and pipe sizing to verify system performance in compliance with NFPA standards and local codes.
Develop detailed shop drawings, submittals, and as-built drawings for review by engineers and authorities having jurisdiction.
Coordinate with project engineers, architects, general contractors, and other trades to resolve design issues and incorporate site-specific constraints.
Review project specifications and create material takeoffs and equipment lists for procurement and installation.
Participate in project meetings, site visits, and field inspections to verify conditions and support installation and commissioning.
Maintain drawing and design files, revision control, and documentation to meet project and quality assurance requirements.
Assist with permitting and respond to jurisdictional comments and plan review corrections as required.
QualificationsAssociates degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Fire Protection Technology, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
NICET certification in Fire Protection Engineering Technology (preferred level II or III) or working toward certification.
Strong knowledge of NFPA standards (e.g., NFPA 13, 13R, 13D, 25) and applicable local codes and ordinances.
Proficient in AutoCAD and experience producing 2D construction and shop drawings; familiarity with Revit or other BIM tools is a plus.
Experience performing hydraulic calculations and using hydraulic calculation software (e.g., HASS, SprinkCAD, HydraCALC).3+ years of experience in fire sprinkler design or related fire protection engineering role preferred.
Excellent attention to detail, technical problem-solving skills, and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
