at Department of Transportation in Carbondale, Illinois, United States Job Description Essential Functions Maintains all state and interstate highways in an assigned geographical area. Makes recommendations for work to be completed at maintenance facilities through the Capital Development Board. Determines maintenance deficiencies in an assigned area. Corrects maintenance deficiencies through Day Labor projects, Contract Maintenance projects, or district Maintenance forces. Directs snow and ice removal and disaster field operations. Reviews design plans for construction projects to minimize future maintenance problems. Provides technical advice and recommendations to the Operations Engineer. Assigns, trains, motivates and evaluates subordinate personnel. Performs duties in compliance with the Departmental Safety Rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois OR current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois. Five years of experience in civil engineering. Preferred Qualifications Five years’ experience in the specific area of highway engineering, three years of which should have been supervising engineering functions. Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering. Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills. Strong oral and/or written communication skills.
