The Chief Engineer has overall leadership responsibility for management, operation, and maintenance for the facilities in support of government and corporate strategies and objectives and oversees the execution of work by the facility maintenance crew (supervises). In addition, the Chief Engineer operates and maintains one or more systems that provide an establishment with such services as heat, air-conditioning (cool, humidify, dehumidify, filter, and circulate air), refrigeration, steam or high-temperature water or electricity.

Duties involve:

observing and interpreting readings on gauges, meters and charts which register various aspects of the system's operation, adjusting controls to insure safe and efficient operation of the system and to meet demands for the service provided, recording in logs various aspects of the system's operation, keeping the engines, machinery and equipment of the system in good working order. This engineer may direct and coordinate activities of other workers (not stationary engineers) in performing tasks directly related to operating and maintaining the system or systems. The classification excludes head or chief engineers in establishments employing more than one engineer. Workers are required to be skilled in the repair of electronic control equipment; workers in establishments producing electricity, steam, or heated or cooled air primarily for sale, and Boiler Tenders.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Perform and document Preventive Maintenance tasks and associated repairs Perform daily tours as required and report on deficiencies of equipment and systems Update equipment inventory log to maintain accurate and current database Identify proactive/corrective work to manage potential threats, improve facility operations and enhance tenant comfort. Ensure that company performance standards are consistently maintained in the required time frame Maintain building and equipment logs and utility usage data Provide material and equipment for scheduled work and preventive maintenance tasks Understand and adhere to all company policies and guidelines Must be available to respond to emergency after hours calls as needed Must be able to take direction and work independently Responsible for minimizing energy and water consumption throughout facility

Skills, Education and Experience:

High School graduate or equivalent, additional technical training preferred Must have Universal Certification for refrigerant handling in accordance with EPA Rule 608, additional HVAC and electrical training desirable. Ammonia refrigeration experience preferred 5 years of recent verifiable experience in a Commercial Facility Must have knowledge and experience in all areas of facility operations and maintenance Advanced electrical skills desired and plumbing skills Advanced knowledge of Building Automation Systems Proven leadership skills
