Job Summary Telework options for this position are dependent on where the employee lives. The primary work location for this position is 443 Lafayette Road N, St. Paul, MN. Employees living within 50 miles of the primary work location will be required to work in the office at least 50% of the time each month. Employees that live in Minnesota and are more than 50 miles from the primary work location may be eligible for more than 50% telework with agency approvals. Employees may reside outside of the state of Minnesota if they live in a bordering state and are within 50 miles of the primary work location. This position exists to administer the Minnesota State Plumbing Code at an advanced technical level through detailed plan reviews and evaluations of documentation for projects including new construction, additions, and alterations to plumbing systems. The scope of review excludes single-family homes, two-family homes, townhomes, and multi-family homes with four or fewer dwellings. The position ensures compliance with the Minnesota State Plumbing Code, applicable standards, administrative provisions of the Minnesota Building Code Chapter 1300, and fundamental engineering principles to protect public health and safety across Minnesota. The incumbent performs advanced plumbing plan reviews, evaluates construction documents for code compliance, and provides specialized technical guidance to stakeholders such as design professionals, municipalities, and building officials. The position also assists applicants with understanding plan review processes, permitting requirements, and application submittal expectations to support the efficient movement of projects through the plan review system. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Five years of experience in plumbing system design, plumbing engineering, plumbing plan preparation, or plumbing plan review, including the application of the Minnesota Plumbing Code in the evaluation of projects. Communication skills to clearly advise clients regarding plumbing code interpretations and provide guidance regarding the plan review application process. Knowledge of plumbing systems and plumbing construction practices. Ability to review construction drawings and specifications for relevance, accuracy, and completeness to determine compliance with statutes, rules and codes that are within the authority of the department. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals with a wide range of backgrounds, who do not share your same culture, ethnicity, language, or other common experiences. Preferred Qualifications Experience interpreting of the Minnesota Plumbing Code and administrative provisions of Minnesota Building Code Chapter 1300. Experience in plumbing system design and product specifications. Experience reviewing plans and specifications in both paper form and electronic form. Experience managing multiple projects with a variety of schedules and stakeholders. Language skills other than English (such as Somali, Spanish, Hmong, Karen or ASL).
