As the property's sole Maintenance Engineer, this position is responsible for identifying and addressing maintenance needs throughout the entire hotel, completing preventative maintenance, responding to guest and staff requests, and ensuring the property remains safe, functional, clean, and well maintained. The Maintenance Engineer is expected to work independently, prioritize daily responsibilities, communicate with management regarding maintenance needs, and take ownership of the condition of the property. On-Call & Emergency Responsibilities As the sole Maintenance Engineer , this position serves as the hotel's primary maintenance contact for emergencies outside of regularly scheduled working hours. The Maintenance Engineer is expected to be available on an on-call basis for urgent hotel maintenance emergencies. The Maintenance Engineer must maintain reliable communication with the hotel and be reachable when on call. The Maintenance Engineer is expected to respond promptly to emergency calls from management . The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for taking appropriate steps to protect guests, employees, equipment, and hotel property during an emergency. If a problem requires a licensed contractor, specialized service, or emergency assistance beyond the employee's qualifications, the Maintenance Engineer must immediately notify management and assist with coordinating the appropriate response. Emergency calls and call-back work must be documented and handled in accordance with hotel policy and applicable wage-and-hour requirements. Daily Responsibilities The Maintenance Engineer is expected to review the property daily and address maintenance needs rather than relying solely on work orders or guest complaints. Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Walk the property and identify maintenance issues. Check guest rooms and public areas for maintenance concerns. Respond to outstanding maintenance requests. Check HVAC, plumbing, lighting, and major equipment. Address safety concerns immediately. Complete scheduled preventative maintenance. Maintain clean and organized maintenance areas. Update management regarding significant issues or needed repairs. Complete work orders and maintenance documentation. Work Performance Expectations Because this is the hotel's sole Maintenance Engineer, initiative, reliability, availability, and ownership are essential requirements of the position. The Maintenance Engineer is expected to: Stay productive throughout the scheduled workday. Prioritize work based on safety, guest impact, and operational needs. Address problems promptly rather than allowing issues to remain unresolved. Take ownership of the overall condition of the hotel. Communicate when additional parts, equipment, or outside assistance are needed. Follow through on repairs until they are completed or properly turned over to management/vendor support. Maintain professional conduct while on hotel property. Properly care for hotel tools, equipment, keys, supplies, and property. Maintain the security and confidentiality of guest rooms and hotel operations. Follow all hotel policies and management instructions. Report any suspected theft, damage, safety issue, or policy violation immediately to management.
