Maintenance Engineer Job Description This role focuses on performing preventative and reactive maintenance on a wide range of industrial equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the facility. You will diagnose faults, repair and install mechanical components, and support continuous improvement of maintenance practices in a dynamic environment that includes both shop and field work. Responsibilities Perform preventative and reactive maintenance on industrial equipment and components, including pumps, motors, bearings, belts, drives, chains, fasteners, hydraulics, pneumatics, gaskets, conveyors, gearboxes and packaging machinery. Diagnose mechanical and system faults, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions to minimize downtime. Install components and fixtures such as motors, bearings, hydraulic and pneumatic components, conveyors, gaskets and fasteners in accordance with technical specifications and safety standards. Manage supplies, tools and equipment by monitoring inventory, requesting replacements and ensuring that necessary parts and materials are available for maintenance tasks. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics and technical drawings to plan and execute maintenance, repairs and installations accurately. Perform maintenance and troubleshooting work at heights up to 100 feet using catwalks and boom lifts, following all safety procedures. Conduct maintenance and troubleshooting both outdoors in all weather conditions and indoors in the shop, adjusting work methods to the environment. Support reactive maintenance and troubleshooting activities in the field, responding promptly to equipment issues as they arise. Carry out planned maintenance and repairs in the shop, including component overhaul and equipment refurbishment. Use welding and rigging skills, where applicable, to support repairs, installations and equipment handling in a safe and controlled manner. Collaborate with team members and other departments to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize disruption to operations. Document maintenance activities, repairs and parts usage accurately to support recordkeeping and future troubleshooting. Participate in rotating on-call schedules and adjust work hours as needed to support vacation coverage, extended time off, pressing projects or schedule changes requested by the site. Essential Skills At least 3 years of experience performing preventative and corrective maintenance on industrial conveyors, pumps, motors, bearings, drives, belts and chains. At least 3 years of experience performing preventative and corrective maintenance on fasteners, hydraulics, pneumatics, gaskets, packaging machinery, conveyors and gearboxes. At least 3 years of experience reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings. Ability to work at heights up to 100 feet using catwalks and boom lifts while following all safety protocols. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and indoors in a shop environment. Experience with welding and rigging for maintenance and repair applications. Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose faults and perform effective repairs on complex mechanical systems. Ability to manage supplies, tools and equipment, including tracking inventory and coordinating replacement parts. Capability to perform both preventative maintenance and reactive troubleshooting in a fast-paced industrial setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Welding experience is a plus and enhances the ability to perform structural and component repairs. Rigging experience is a plus and supports safe lifting, moving and positioning of equipment and components. Comfort working on rotating on-call schedules and adapting to occasional schedule changes based on operational needs. Strong attention to safety practices, including working at heights and in varying weather conditions. Effective communication and teamwork skills to coordinate maintenance activities with colleagues and other departments. Why Work Here? Work Environment The work environment combines outdoor and indoor industrial settings, with duties split between reactive maintenance and troubleshooting outside and planned maintenance and repairs in the shop. You will work at heights up to 100 feet on catwalks and in boom lifts, and you will perform tasks in all weather conditions as well as in an indoor maintenance shop. The position follows a first-shift schedule, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with rotating on-call responsibilities every few weeks. Schedules may occasionally change to support vacation coverage, extended time off, pressing projects or site-driven schedule adjustments. The site is expected to close within approximately 20 to 40 months, and there will be opportunities to transition to other sites as operations wind down. The environment involves working around industrial machinery, conveyors, pumps and related equipment, using tools and technologies such as welding and rigging gear, and adhering to established safety procedures and site standards, including appropriate industrial work attire and protective equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dayton, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $36.50 - $36.50/hr.
