Full-Time Job Summary The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing the hotel's engineering and maintenance operations, ensuring that the property, guest rooms, public areas, equipment, and building systems are maintained in a safe, efficient, and reliable condition. The Chief Engineer will lead the maintenance team and ensure compliance with Marriott brand standards, company policies, and applicable safety regulations. Key Responsibilities Oversee all daily engineering and maintenance operations for the hotel. Lead, train, schedule, and supervise engineering and maintenance staff. Perform regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, mechanical rooms, and hotel facilities. Ensure preventive maintenance programs are properly implemented and maintained. Respond promptly to maintenance requests and guest room work orders. Troubleshoot and repair HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and other building systems. Monitor and maintain boilers, water heaters, pumps, elevators, fire/life-safety systems, and other property equipment, as applicable. Coordinate with outside contractors and service providers for specialized repairs and preventive maintenance. Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, preventive maintenance, equipment servicing, and warranties. Monitor engineering-related expenses and assist with preparing and managing the department budget. Maintain appropriate inventory of tools, equipment, parts, and maintenance supplies. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety requirements. Coordinate required inspections, permits, licenses, and testing of building systems. Respond to emergencies and participate in the hotel's emergency and disaster procedures. Work closely with the General Manager and other department heads to address property maintenance issues. Assist with capital improvement projects and renovation activities. Ensure hotel grounds, exterior areas, parking areas, and other facilities are properly maintained. Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and appearance in engineering areas. Ensure compliance with Marriott brand standards and hotel operating procedures. Monitor energy and utility usage and identify opportunities to reduce operating costs. Maintain a safe working environment and ensure employees follow proper safety procedures. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the General Manager. Qualifications Previous experience as a Chief Engineer, Engineering Manager, Maintenance Manager, or similar hotel engineering position preferred. Hotel maintenance experience strongly preferred. Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and building systems. Experience with preventive maintenance programs. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to supervise and motivate a maintenance team. Knowledge of workplace safety and applicable building codes and regulations. Marriott or other major hotel brand experience is preferred. Ability to work independently and respond to emergencies when necessary. Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays when required. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb ladders, and work in mechanical areas. Ability to lift and move maintenance equipment and supplies as required. Ability to work in varying temperatures and conditions. Ability to respond to emergency maintenance situations.
