The Chief Engineer is responsible for maintaining the hotel's physical assets, ensuring a safe environment for guests and associates, and leading the engineering team to provide exceptional service while maintaining brand standards. Essential Responsibilities Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Engineering Department. Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate engineering and maintenance team members. Develop and maintain a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all guest rooms, public areas, mechanical equipment, and hotel systems. Ensure the safe and efficient operation of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, fire life safety, kitchen equipment, and building automation systems. Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency situations. Coordinate repairs and projects with outside contractors and vendors. Monitor maintenance expenses and assist in managing the department budget. Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA requirements. Ensure compliance with brand standards and property maintenance requirements. Perform routine inspections of guest rooms, public spaces, meeting rooms, back-of-house areas, and building equipment. Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, equipment logs, and preventative maintenance documentation. Participate in capital improvement planning and equipment replacement recommendations. Work closely with all hotel departments to ensure an exceptional guest experience. Participate in the manager-on-duty schedule as assigned. Qualifications Minimum of 3-5 years of engineering or maintenance leadership experience in a hotel or comparable commercial facility. Prior supervisory experience required. Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, mechanical systems, and general building maintenance. Experience with preventative maintenance programs and work order systems. Ability to troubleshoot equipment and building systems efficiently. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced hospitality environment. Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call emergency situations. High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or trade certifications preferred. Physical Requirements Frequently stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, confined spaces, and varying weather conditions as needed.
