Job Summary Telework options for this position are dependent on where the employee lives. The primary work location for this position is 443 Lafayette Road N, St. Paul, MN. Employees living within 50 miles of the primary work location will be required to work in the office at least 50% of the time each month. Employees that live in Minnesota and are more than 50 miles from the primary work location may be eligible for more than 50% telework with agency approvals. Employees may reside outside of the state of Minnesota if they live in a bordering state and are within 50 miles of the primary work location.
NOTE:
This position does offer Telework possibilities, however it is anticipated the initial training would involve in office time at 443 Lafayette in Saint Paul, MN. This training will be on a daily basis for about 6 months. This position will administer provisions of the State Plumbing Code by providing plan review and technical assistance on documents submitted for new construction, additions to, and alterations of plumbing systems for all building types except single family homes, two family homes, townhomes, and multi-family homes with 4 or fewer dwellings. The code review requires determining if the proposed work complies with the Minnesota State Plumbing Code, referenced standards, administrative provisions of the Minnesota Building Code Chapter 1300, and the principles and practices of common engineering to protect the health and safety of the people of Minnesota. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Three years of para-engineering experience where work includes review and evaluation of proposed plumbing plans to ensure compliance with the Minnesota State Plumbing Code under the direct supervision of a Minnesota Licensed Engineer or Minnesota Licensed Master Plumber. Ability to navigate electronic systems and databases to maintain accurate records. Communication skills to clearly advise clients regarding code interpretations and provide guidance regarding the plan review application process. Written and verbal skills to respond to application submissions providing comments and general notes. Knowledge of plumbing systems and plumbing construction practices. Ability to work as a team as well as individually and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a broad base of clientele and DLI Personnel. Ability to review construction drawings and specifications for relevance, accuracy, and completeness to determine compliance with statutes, rules and codes that are within the authority of the department. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals with a wide range of backgrounds, who do not share your same culture, ethnicity, language, or other common experiences. Preferred Qualifications Thorough knowledge of the Minnesota Plumbing Code and administrative provisions of Minnesota Building Code Chapter 1300. Experience in plumbing system design and product specifications. Experience reviewing plans and specifications in both paper form and electronic form. Experience managing multiple projects with a variety of schedules and stakeholders. Ten years' experience as a para-engineer. Language skills other than English (such as Somali, Spanish, Hmong, Karen or ASL). Licensed engineer or licensed master plumber.
