JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking an Inside Sales Engineer who can help apply mechanical, HVAC, precision cooling, and thermal management equipment for data center, computer room, and critical infrastructure applications. This role provides direct support to the sales team through inside sales engineering, product applications, estimating, quotations and customer technical support activities for mechanical, HVAC, precision cooling, Thermal management, and data center thermal infrastructure airflow management applications. Responsibilities include reviewing plans and specifications, selecting and applying equipment, preparing customer quotations, coordinating with manufacturers, supporting order entry and submittal activity, maintaining CRM data, assisting contractors, engineers, resellers, and end users, tracking sales activities, and helping the team identify and close sales opportunities. The position is a key link between customers, engineers, contractors, manufacturers, and the GSI sales team to ensure exceptional service, accurate technical support, and continued business growth. Future opportunities could include expanded responsibility for customer Thermal HPC and precision cooling product support, thermal applications, specialty products, small project management, and sales growth across GSI's East Tennessee focused territory. In that expanded role, the employee may become accountable for supporting sales, customers, revenue, profitability, and relationships with consulting engineers, mechanical contractors, facility managers, IT managers, and market resellers.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Four-year college degree or equivalent experience preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, HVAC, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
- A mechanical or HVAC background is preferred.
1-3 years of industry experience supporting, estimating, applying, or selling mechanical equipment, HVAC systems, precision cooling, or data center infrastructure is preferred. Comprehensive on-the-job training is provided. Good knowledge of MS Products Excel, Word, Teams, Copilot and PowerPoint Business professional with the ability to execute good judgment and demonstrate personal integrity that align with the company's core values. Occasional travel for training, customer meetings or events will be required. Self-motivated, proactive, assertive, ability to execute and deliver results. Strong communication, listening and organizational skills with attention to detail. Ability to build strong relationships with the team, customers and manufacturers.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and HVAC customers, including consulting engineers, mechanical contractors, facility managers, and data center operators—their responsibilities, business priorities, common challenges, key technologies, and how our solutions support reliable facility operation.
- Consultative technical sales professional with the ability to work with customers to evaluate applications, understand project requirements, review mechanical schedules or specifications.
- Develop practical HVAC and thermal management solutions including product data, submittals, and specifications; experience with HVAC load concepts, airflow, cooling capacity, controls, or heat rejection equipment is a plus.
- Ability to triage customer questions related to equipment selection, lead times, scope clarification, replacement needs, installation constraints, and service coordination, then move issues toward resolution.
- Professional image, well spoken, articulate with strong presentation skills. Effective listening skills to understand the customer needs and determine how our solutions will fulfill those needs.
- Effective writing skills for clear technical communications, equipment selections, proposal generation, bid responses, and basic scope clarifications.
- Capable of handling client objections by identifying the actual issue at hand, clearly describing how we can address it, and formulating innovative solutions.
- Awareness of cross-selling opportunities across other lines of business and the ability to engage office subject matter experts when appropriate.
- Results driven individual who works well in a team selling/collaborative environment and contributes individual performance for the benefit of the team.
Pay:
$70,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
