Position OverviewWe are seeking a detail-oriented Fire Sprinkler Designer to develop code-compliant, constructible fire sprinkler system designs for commercial, institutional, and industrial projects. The role focuses on producing accurate hydraulic calculations and construction documents, coordinating with project managers, engineers, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction, and supporting projects from schematic design through construction. Ideal candidates will have hands-on fire protection design experience and familiarity with project management and construction processes.
Key ResponsibilitiesProduce detailed fire sprinkler system layouts and construction drawings using AutoCAD and Revit, ensuring drawings are clear, accurate, and coordinated with other disciplines.
Perform hydraulic calculations and system analyses to size pipe, heads, valves, and other components; verify designs meet NFPA standards and local codes.
Develop specifications, material takeoffs, and equipment schedules to support procurement and construction.
Coordinate with project managers, mechanical/electrical engineers, architects, general contractors, and AHJs to resolve design issues and ensure timely project delivery.
Provide construction support including submittal review, shop drawing coordination, site visits, and field verification to ensure installed systems match design intent.
Maintain project documentation, including design calculation packages, revision logs, and record drawings.
Assist project managers with project planning tasks, schedules, and cost estimating as needed; communicate status and risks to project teams and clients.
Mentor junior designers and drafters, review their work for technical accuracy and compliance with standards.
Stay current with codes, standards (NFPA 13, 14, 20 where applicable), and industry best practices; implement improvements to design workflows and templates.
QualificationsBachelors degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Technology, or related technical discipline, or equivalent technical experience.3+ years of fire sprinkler system design experience for commercial, institutional, or industrial projects.
Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit (Revit MEP preferred); experience with hydraulic calculation software (HydraCALC, SprinkCAD, or equivalent).Strong working knowledge of NFPA 13 and related codes, as well as familiarity with local authority having jurisdiction requirements.
Demonstrated construction experience or frequent field collaboration, with the ability to interpret construction drawings and site conditions.
Project management experience or demonstrated ability to manage workload, schedules, and communicate project status to stakeholders.
NICET certification in Water-Based Systems Layout or related certification highly desirable.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability.
Valid drivers license and willingness to attend site visits as required.
