Assistant County Engineer HOURS:
Monday-Friday; 7:00am-3:30pm
STARTING WAGE
$35.10 - $43.85 PRIMARY
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Uses Engineering instruments in collecting surveying data for preliminary engineering surveys and in staking construction projects on an engineering survey party. Performs inspections of contractor's materials and quality of work for conformance to plans and specifications. Drafts plans for construction projects for the improvement of county highways and bridges by applying learned engineering drafting principles. Scales and checks aggregates and bituminous materials for construction projects by using basic laboratory equipment. Assists in estimating costs for construction and engineering projects. Maintain and advance the Highway Department GIS programs. May assist on various highway maintenance duties as required.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Experience in computer drafting; operating surveying and drafting instruments; operating material testing equipment; operating scientific calculators for computing engineering formulas.
Ability to:
calculate mathematical computations accurately; comprehend and follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, engineers, contractors and the general public. Experience in bridge safety inspections and GIS helpful. Criminal background check required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum two (2) year technical degree in Civil Engineering field Two (2) years of experience or substantial comparable work-related experience Valid MN driver's license Hold current certification as a "Level
II MN/DOT
Certified Construction Tech" in the areas of Bituminous, Concrete, Grading and Base, Bridge Construction and Erosion and Sediment Control Site Management; or able to obtain.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Work may be dirty and potentially hazardous at times Work in adverse weather conditions Long days during the construction season May involve carrying objects weighing over fifty (50) pounds.
