Job Description
Our client, a Consumer Products And Software Services company, is looking for a Junior Board Hardware Design Engineer for their Sunnyvale, CA location.
Responsibilities:
Schematic & PCB Design:
Assist in creating electrical schematics and multi-layer PCB layouts using ECAD tools.
Component Selection:
Research and select electronic components based on performance, cost, and availability. Maintain the digital component library.
Prototyping & Assembly:
Bring up new hardware prototypes, including hands-on board rework, soldering, modifications, and
MCU/FPGA
programming
Testing & Verification:
Use lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers) to test, debug, and validate hardware functionality against specifications.
Documentation:
Generate and maintain engineering documentation, including Bills of Materials (BOMs) PCB Gerbers, test plans, and design reviews.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless product integration.
Fabrication:
Work with PCB fab and assembly vendors to submit designs and answer technical questions. Suggest part substitutions when components are out of stock.
Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
Circuit Fundamentals:
Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit design principles.
ECAD Experience:
Familiarity with PCB design software such as Altium Designer, KiCad, OrCAD, or Eagle (academic project experience is acceptable).
Lab Skills:
Hands-on experience with standard lab equipment and basic soldering/rework skills.
Problem Solving:
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to diagnose hardware issues.
Communication:
Clear written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and teamwork.
Experience with common communication protocols like I2C, SPI, UART, or USB.
Prior internship or co-op experience in hardware development or electronics manufacturing.
Basic understanding of power management (buck/boost regulators, LDOs) and signal integrity basics.
