The Fire Protection Engineer is a shared resource covering suppression, detection, and life-safety design review across Hut 8's data center projects, coordinating AHJ and insurer (FM Global) requirements. Fire protection in a data center sits at the intersection of three demanding stakeholders- code, the insurer, and operations
- and this role keeps all three satisfied without compromising uptime philosophy.
ABOUT YOU
- What we're looking for:
- 5+ years of fire protection engineering for data centers, industrial, or mission-critical facilities.
- PE in Fire Protection Engineering strongly preferred (or FPE degree with PE path).
- Deep working knowledge of NFPA 13, 72, 75/76, 2001, and 855, and of FM Global data sheets as applied to data centers.
- Direct experience managing AHJ plan review and acceptance testing to approval.
- Insurer coordination experience
- FM Global strongly preferred.
- Understanding of detection/suppression integration with BMS, electrical shutdown, and mechanical sequences.
- Familiarity with the FP implications of liquid cooling and battery energy storage.
- Able to cover multiple concurrent projects across jurisdictions.
- Periodic travel for acceptance tests and FM visits (typically 15-25%).
