Job Description

HOERBIGER
seeks an Application and Explosion Protection Engineer to develop and apply explosion protection solutions for compressors, drives, and mechatronic systems in demanding industrial environments. You will perform hazardous area classifications, support ATEX/IECEx compliant designs, and ensure adherence to NFPA, OSHA, and related standards. Working with global engineering, sales, and customer teams, you will evaluate applications, conduct risk assessments, specify protection concepts, and troubleshoot field issues. This role fits an engineer who values safety, technical rigor, and long-term industrial innovation. Responsibilities Design and apply explosion protection concepts for compressors, drives, and mechatronic systems Perform hazardous area classifications and support ATEX/IECEx compliant designs Ensure compliance with NFPA, OSHA, and relevant international safety standards Conduct risk assessments and contribute to process safety studies for customer applications Evaluate customer requirements and size/select appropriate protection technologies Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis of field issues Prepare technical documentation, specifications, and certification support materials Collaborate with global engineering, product management, and sales teams on solutions Provide technical guidance to customers on safe application and operation of equipment Contribute to continuous improvement of safety, reliability, and engineering best practices Required Skills Explosion protection design Hazardous area classification (ATEX/IECEx/NFPA) Process safety and risk assessment (HAZOP/LOPA) Mechanical or electrical systems engineering CAD and engineering design tools Safety instrumented systems (SIS) basics Failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA/FMEDA) Industrial standards and codes compliance Root cause analysis and troubleshooting Technical documentation and reporting
