The EHS Engineer - Occupational Health & Industrial Hygiene is an experienced EHS professional responsible for identifying, evaluating, and controlling chemical, biological, laser, radiological, and physical hazards across laboratories, pilot areas, and technical workspaces at Saint-Gobain Innovation North America and associated R D sites. Based in Northborough MA and reporting to the Strategic EHS&S Manager, this on-site, hands-on role provides technical leadership for laboratory safety programs, industrial hygiene assessments, regulatory compliance, and practical risk reduction. The EHS Engineer -

Occupational Health & Industrial Hygiene:

Leads chemical safety and laboratory hygiene programs , including chemical review and approval, SDS and inventory management, hazard compatibility, storage and labeling requirements, laboratory inspections, exposure concerns, safer substitution, and end-of-life considerations. Plan and conduct industrial hygiene and exposure assessments for airborne contaminants, noise, ventilation effectiveness, indoor environmental quality, and other occupational hazards; interpret results and recommend engineering, administrative, PPE, and respiratory-protection controls. Administers Biosafety, Laser and Radiation safety programs , including biological agent risk assessments, containment and work-practice reviews, laser and radiation licensing, inventory, dosimetry, surveys, training, records, and coordination with regulators, corporate resources, and external specialists. Maintains technical programs, training, and compliance documentation by developing SOPs and guidance, delivering laboratory and hazard-specific training, administering technical elements of PPE and respiratory protection, maintaining audit-ready records, and supporting incident investigations and risk assessments. IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?

Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience: Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health/Science, Sustainability, or related science/engineering field Experience working within a rigorous EHS environment (preferably R D, lab or similarly complex technical environment) handling Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene and Lab Safety including radiation, laser and biosafety program management General EHS, chemical safety, and lab safety knowledge.

Chemical Safety, Industrial Hygiene & Lab Safety:

Applied knowledge of chemical safety, industrial hygiene and laboratory safety best practices including chemical review and approval, inventory and SDS management, laboratory inspections, and safe storage and handling requirements. Able to conduct exposure assessments, interpret results, and recommend effective engineering, administrative, PPE, and respiratory-protection controls.

Biosafety, Laser Safety, Radiation Safety & Technical Program Administration:

Experience with Biosafety, Laser Safety and Radiation Safety administration, overseeing risk assessments, containment practices, licensing, inventories, dosimetry, surveys, training, and required records.

Training, Documentation & Compliance Support:

Expertise in creating laboratory and hazard-specific training, SOPs, and providing technical guidance. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital EHS systems, including data entry, reporting, training records, compliance documentation, and program tracking tools such as 4.0rms to maintain accurate, audit-ready records; support inspections and regulatory reviews; and provide technical assistance for incident investigations, risk assessments, PPE, and respiratory protection programs. Ability to manage defined EHS&S projects, organize priorities, maintain accurate records, support audits, analyze trends, and drive practical continuous improvement.

Customer focus:

Professional demeanor, positive energy, good listening and questioning skills, timely follow up to ensure that customer needs are met Must obtain OSHA, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Hygiene, Exposure Assessment, Emergency Preparedness, Safety, and Response Training upon hire

RCRA & DOT

Training Preferred Qualifications Master's degree with 2+ years of relevant experience: Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health/Science, Sustainability, or related science/engineering field Knowledge and experience working on 5S and sustainability initiatives (recycling, chemical reuse, responsible materials, circularity, indoor air quality, data verification, performance tracking, or improvement-project coordination).

Sustainability:

Chemical reuse/recycling, inventory control, and sustainability data. Biosafety, Laser Safety, Radiation Safety, 5S, Mental Health First Aider, Ergonomics, Event investigation, Working at Height, Hot-Work Permit Training Physical & Work Requirements Pushing, pulling, lifting, and transporting up to 50lbs

We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer potential candidates. Provided is the national pay range for this position which is $81,500 to $126,500 per year. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 10% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. The Total Target Cash range (base pay and annual bonus) for this position, is $89,650 to $139,150. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.
