An Industrial Engineer devises ways to make production processes more efficient and less wasteful. Uses technology and engineering to help companies and organizations produce products with efficient use of time, resources, and energy.
Sr. PCB Supplier Industrialization Engineer Tesla Motors, Inc. 112,000 - 306,000 USD 401(k) United States, California, Palo Alto Jul 29, 2026
What to Expect The PCB Supplier Industrialization Engineer (SIE) is the subject matter expert on rigid, high-layer-count, and high-density interconnect (HDI) PCB manufacturing processes, laminate materials, and fabrication rulesets, and will be responsible for supplier audits, qualifications, and supplierselections for the high-end PCBs in Tesla's electronics portfolio. This role focuses on low-loss,high-speed PCB technologies used in advanced compute, AI, and power-electronics hardware, ensuring that Tesla's most demanding designs are manufacturable at best-in-class quality, yield, and cost. What You'll Do
Serve as the subject matter expert on PCB fabrication processes and laminate materials, delivering advanced PCB fabrication and design strategies for low-loss, high-speed applications
Support Design for Manufacturing (DFM) based on PCB supplier fabrication limitations, and guide Design Engineers on layer stack-ups, impedance control, and layout optimization for high-speed/low-loss performance
Define and maintain PCB specifications, criteria, and reliability standards to improve supplier performance for incumbent and new PCB suppliers
Review and define
APQP/PPAP
requirements as the primary owner and approver of downstream rigid, multi-lam, and HDI PCB suppliers
Conduct PCB supplier audits and support the development of additional audit criteria to assess suppliers against Tesla's high standard of quality
Match supplier technology and process capability to product complexity, identify capability gaps, and lead qualification of new fabrication technologies and materials Lead experimental validation of new materials, laminates, and processes through formal
Design of Experiments (DoE) to establish scalable, high-yield manufacturing processes
Drive PCB suppliers on quality issues and field escalations through root cause analysis and corrective actions on defects such as delamination, via opens/voids, registration, and impedance excursions
Support negotiations for piece price and product development to ensure Tesla's pricing meets best-landed-cost expectations as well as Supplier Industrialization standards of best-in-class quality What You'll Bring
Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Materials, or Chemical Engineering, or equivalent experience
5+ years of hands-on experience with rigid/HDI PCB manufacturing or industrializing and managing PCB suppliers
Subject Matter Expert on high-layer-count rigid, multi-lam, and HDI PCB fabrication Deep experience with high-speed/low-loss dielectric materials beyond standard FR-4 (e.g., Rogers, Megtron, Tachyon), resins, copper, glass, and polyimides
Strong understanding of core fabrication steps: electroless and electrolytic copper plating, sequential lamination, microvia formation, laser and mechanical drilling, DES, oxide/bond enhancement, AOI, impedance control, and electrical test
Experience with layer stack-up design and the trade-offs of material vs. loss vs. cost vs. capacity for high-speed PCBs
Familiarity with quality tools such as APQP, PPAP, SPC, RCCA, and related methods like control charts, DoE, and Pareto analysis
Strong knowledge and understanding of industry specifications and standards, especially IPC and JEDEC
Solid technical knowledge of the downstream PCBA manufacturing process
International travel is required to engage with manufacturing partners, sometimes on short notice Compensation and Benefits
Benefits As a part-time Tesla employee, you will be eligible for: 401(k) with employer match
