Core hours are 6:00 AM
•2:30 PM, but must be flexible to support/cover 2nd shift (up to ~50% of the time, with an adjusted later start time working until 7:00 PM) Job Summary We are seeking an energetic and data-driven Manufacturing Engineer
•Industrial Engineering to provide operational engineering and process support within a high-volume Parts Distribution Center in Mattoon, IL. In this role, you will optimize warehouse fulfillment workflows—including receiving, storage, order picking, packing, and outbound shipping—while acting as a resident functional and transactional expert in SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) . Working directly on the floor alongside warehouse technicians, pick/pack teams, and logistics leadership, you will conduct root cause analyses, build data visualizations/dashboards, implement lean distribution practices, and drive continuous improvements that enhance productivity, safety, and delivery accuracy.
Key Responsibilities Distribution & Warehouse Process Optimization:
Analyze, define, and continuously improve standard operating processes across inbound receiving, slotted storage, automated/manual picking, packing, and shipping bays.
SAP EWM Subject Matter Expertise:
Serve as the on-site technical and transactional resource for SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM); troubleshoot system errors, improve inventory transactions, and train front-line distribution personnel on system best practices. Root Cause & Corrective Action (RCCA): Investigate fulfillment errors, operational bottlenecks, safety concerns, and inventory discrepancies; lead structured root-cause investigations and implement sustainable corrective/preventive actions.
Data Analytics & Visualization:
Gather, analyze, and visualize warehouse throughput and labor efficiency metrics using business intelligence and data visualization tools to support operational decision-making.
Floor Collaboration & Training:
Partner across all levels of the warehouse environment—working directly with pickers, packers, shippers, facilities technicians, and management to foster an organized, safe, and high-performance culture.
Onsite Facility Mobility:
Operate internal facility transport vehicles (such as Cushman carts and golf carts) to quickly navigate across warehouse buildings after completing onsite safety certification.
Required Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain Engineering, Operations Management, or a related technical discipline (Equivalent technical training and related industrial/warehouse engineering experience will also be evaluated) .
Core Technical Competencies:
SAP Expertise:
Demonstrated hands-on experience utilizing SAP (specifically SAP EWM / Warehouse Management modules) for transactions and process flows.
Root Cause Analysis:
Practical experience utilizing formal root cause analysis and corrective action frameworks to solve process/quality failures.
Data Analytics:
Proven ability to manipulate logistics/production data and create clear visual metrics/dashboards.
Communication Skills:
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the demonstrated ability to engage effectively with wage floor associates as well as senior leadership.
Work Hours & PPE Requirements:
Must be able to work 6:00 AM
•2:30 PM, with flexibility to adjust start times to cover 2nd shift operations (working until 7:00 PM up to 50% of the time). Must possess and wear Metatarsal safety boots on Day 1.
Note:

Preferred Qualifications Experience working inside large-scale distribution centers, parts logistics hubs, or manufacturing fulfillment operations. Practical understanding of Lean warehousing concepts, continuous improvement (Kaizen/5S), slotting optimization, and labor standards.
