Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
This professional position is responsible for engineering duties on mechanical equipment including rotating equipment, piping systems, ash systems, water systems, sootblowing systems, pulverizers, boilers and more. Applicant would be responsible for inspections, system improvement recommendations, project management, equipment overhauls, and repair plan creation.
  • Provide technical support to Plant Operations and Maintenance on system improvements, troubleshooting, repair plans, process optimization and project implementation.
  • Perform project engineering duties to overhaul and replace equipment including the development of budget, schedules, specifications, and documents.
  • Identifying, developing, and initiating capital projects with an implementation date of one to two years in duration.
  • Providing engineering support on facility safety initiatives when designing and/or redesigning work processes to eliminate workplace injuries.
  • Lead large capital projects and engineering studies as assigned to support plant goals. Managing projects in compliance with Evergy' ethics, safety, and engineering standards.
  • Participate in the capital and O&M budgeting process. Provide budgetary cost, schedule, and justification for future years' capital improvement projects.
  • Keeping current in discipline, assess new technologies and ideas, develop, evaluate, and seek approval for new concepts to improve the efficiency and the capability of the process.
  • Lead assigned efforts for improvements in support of safety and plant market mission.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical information and prepare concisely written reports.
  • Demonstrated degree of sound judgment, resourcefulness, initiative, and innovation in handling complex technical assignments, with minimal supervision.
  • Periodically inspect boilers and/or other equipment during outages (forced and scheduled) and develop repair plans based on applicable Codes and failure mechanisms.
  • Willingness to provide periodic engineering support to Lake Road Generating Station in St.
Joseph, MO.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (Metallurgical or Chemical) Engineering from an accredited university ( ABET ) is required.
  • All levels of experience will be considered for this position.
  • Knowledge and experience with appropriate regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, practices, and advanced engineering principles.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:
  • Working conditions include cold, hot, dirty, and noisy environments. Requires work in high places and confined spaces.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, build consensus, and foster relationships at multiple organization levels and across different organizational functions.
Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or
Testing Required:
Driver's license required, P.E. license preferred
