Job Description

Company Overview Communication Systems Solutions is a leading provider of integrated hardware, software, and manufacturing services for communication and electronic systems. We specialize in transforming innovative designs into high-quality, reliable products through our advanced in-house capabilities and industry expertise. Overview We are seeking a highly skilled SMT Production Engineer to oversee, optimize, and maintain our Surface Mount Technology assembly lines, with a primary focus on our Yamaha automated platform. In this role, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of the SMT manufacturing process—from initial machine programming and thermal profiling to root-cause defect analysis and continuous improvement initiatives. You will work closely with NPI (New Product Introduction) and Quality teams to ensure high yield, near-zero defect rates, and maximum efficiency on our production floor. Responsibilities Operate and maintain Yamaha pick and Place equipment according to production schedules and manufacturing standards.
Process Optimization:
Establish, monitor, and refine reflow oven thermal profiles to ensure optimal solder joint integrity across diverse PCB assemblies. Select, load, and verify the correct optical inspection recipes and programs based on specific part numbers and revision levels.
Inspection & Quality Control:
Configure and monitor Solder Paste Inspection (SPI) and Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) systems. Conduct root-cause analysis on typical defects such as tombstoning, bridging, and voiding.
Continuous Improvement:
Utilize methodologies to drive yield improvements, reduce scrap, and optimize cycle times. Provide advanced level of programming across all machines in the SMT department. This includes Stencil printers, Solder paste inspection equipment, pick and place mounters, and Automatic optical inspection machines. Handle and tote up PCBA's safely , taking extreme care to prevent mechanical stress and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) damage.
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent technical experience). Technical trade certifications are a plus.
Experience:
3+ years of direct, hands-on engineering experience in a high-volume SMT manufacturing environment. Proven experience practicing in an industrial or manufacturing engineering role within electronics or SMT production environments. Strong knowledge of project management principles applied to manufacturing settings. Familiarity with engineering troubleshooting techniques related to electronics assembly and process engineering.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent technical experience). Technical trade certifications are a plus.
Experience:
3+ years of direct, hands-on engineering experience in a high-volume SMT manufacturing environment.
Certifications:
Prior exposure to
IPC-A-610
standards is highly preferred (certification or ability to achieve certification upon hire). Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt is a strong plus.
Soft Skills:
Strong analytical problem-solving skills, excellent communication, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional production teams.
Technical Knowledge:
Proven proficiency in industrial equipment programming and optimization software. Knowledge of Yamaha SMT equipment programming and setup is a plus.
Computer Skills:
Basic proficiency navigating manufacturing databases, opening files, and executing program commands .
