  • Description
  • The Analyst, Global Packaging Development is the entry point into The Estée Lauder Companies' Packaging Development organization and plays an important role in bringing innovative, high-quality packaging solutions to market.

This role is designed to build the next generation of technical packaging leaders through hands-on development experience, structured coaching, and cross-functional collaboration. Working under the guidance of senior Packaging Development professionals, the Analyst supports the development and commercialization of packaging across one or more brands or product categories. The Analyst develops technical expertise while contributing to packaging solutions that strengthen brand identity, elevate the consumer experience, improve sustainability, and support business growth. This role partners closely with Marketing, Design, Product Development, R&I, Brand Value Chain (BVC), Global Supplier Management (GSM), Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, Sustainability, Material Science, Package Testing, and supplier partners to deliver packaging solutions that meet quality, performance, cost, timing, manufacturability, and regulatory requirements.

  • The Analyst begins developing an understanding of how packaging creates value for consumers, brands, and the business.

+ Develop an understanding of assigned brands, consumers, product categories, and packaging strategies.

+ Support the development of packaging solutions that protect and enhance brand identity while meeting consumer expectations.

+ Contribute to informing decision making, and learn how packaging decisions influence quality, cost, sustainability, manufacturing, speed to market, and consumer experience.

+ Develop a strong understanding of the Company's business objectives and how Packaging Development contributes to commercial success.

+ Demonstrate curiosity regarding emerging packaging trends, competitive products, and evolving consumer behaviors by partnering closely with R&I on new product forms and innovations as well as the Packaging Inspiration lab to assist in thought provoking sessions for new packaging concepts and designs.

  • Innovation & Technical Strategy
  • The Analyst supports technical innovation while building a strong engineering foundation.

+ Assist in evaluating new packaging concepts, technologies, materials, manufacturing processes, and dispensing systems.

+ Research packaging innovations both within and outside the beauty industry.

+ Support technical feasibility studies including functionality, manufacturability, cost, tooling, development timing, sustainability, and technical risk.

+ Participate in supplier innovation meetings and concept evaluations.

+ Learn how innovation decisions balance creative intent with technical feasibility and operational capability.

+ Utilize AI-enabled tools to accelerate technical research, organize information, summarize technical findings, and support engineering documentation while validating outputs through sound technical judgment.

  • Project Leadership
  • The Analyst manages assigned workstreams while learning the complete Packaging Development process.

+ Support packaging development activities from concept through commercialization.

+ Manage assigned project responsibilities while receiving coaching from senior Packaging Development leaders.

+ Assist in developing:

+ Package feasibility assessments

+ Technical specifications

+ Packaging outlines

+ Component cost analyses

+ Technical drawings

+ Development timelines

+ Risk assessments

+ FMEA documentation

+ Support package testing and validation activities in partnership with Package Testing, Material Science, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality.

+ Assist with supplier communications and development activities.

+ Develop strong project management skills and habits including planning, organization, prioritization, and follow-through.

+ Identification of technical and project risks and escalation of concerns appropriately.

  • The Analyst develops collaborative relationships across the organization while learning effective communication and influence.

+ Build positive working relationships with Marketing, Design, Product Development, R&I, BVC, GSM, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, Sustainability, and supplier partners.

+ Build knowledge of packaging materials, manufacturing processes, decoration technologies, dispensing systems, testing methodologies, and commercialization requirements.

+ Develop an understanding of package engineering principles including fit, function, tolerances, manufacturability, and quality.

+ Learn Company engineering standards, development processes, documentation requirements, and regulatory expectations.

+ Support sustainability initiatives including PPWR compliance and environmentally responsible package design.

+ Continue expanding technical knowledge through supplier interactions, training, conferences, professional organizations, and industry publications.

  • Qualifications
  • +
Education/Certification:

Minimum BS degree in Packaging Science, Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Materials Engineering, or a related technical discipline. +

Direct Experience:

0⁃2 years experience in Package Development, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing or Package Testing lab in cosmetics or related industry.

+ Proficiency in computer systems including, Microsoft Suite. Technical Competency

+ Basic competency in analysis of geometric objects in 2 and 3 dimensions including understanding of clearances, fit and finish of packaging components and subcomponents.

+ Basic competency of CAD software.

+ Basic knowledge of materials used in the construction and manufacturing of primary, secondary and tertiary packaging including but not limited to: Injection molding, Extrusion molding, Metal forming, Glass forming, Vacuum forming, Assembly of components, Dispensing systems (Pump, Airless), Folding carton and rigid box design.

+ Basic knowledge of decorating techniques and materials used on primary, secondary and tertiary packaging.

+ Basic knowledge of test methods used to validate component/package performance.
