Job Description

Packaging Engineer Parsippany, NJ/Montvale, NJ This is a hybrid role
  • Manage high-growth packaging projects related to Omni channel opportunities, with Amazon as a key focus area. This will include re-thinking current packaging for prep-free and SIOC/SIPP, then following through with proposals, material / component selection, participation in cost estimating, sampling, validation, and creating all related documentation.
  • Hands on experience taking SKUs through Amazon's SIOC certification process and ISTA 6 Amazon.com testing, submission through Amazon's Packaging support and Supplier Networking (PSSN) and resolving certification rejections.
  • Work collaboratively within Packaging team as well as the internal cross-functional groups such as Omni channel team, Project Managers, Quality, R&D formulators, Marketing, Supply Chain, as well as external CMO / Custom Manufacturing sites and suppliers. Project meetings are frequent.
  • Ensure the product is protected and the package delivers on its form, fit, and function considering cost, manufacturability, sustainability, and consumer and customer preferences. Apply good design understanding including dimensional interface and tolerances from part drawings and all other aspects of the package through commercialization. Assist with die lines for artwork development.
  • Have working knowledge of household product compatibility with different materials to determine approach on packaging evaluations and validations and arrange both in-house and/or third-party testing.
  • Be trained on our systems to request codes for new components, then create / revise / remediate specifications, bills of materials, pallet pattern documents, etc. Utilize our software for project management updates, change requests, and more.
  • Attend CMOs / Custom Manufacturing locations if needed for trials to validate and troubleshoot packaging when needed. (Travel less than 25%).
  • Interface via email, calls, Teams chat or video platform, or in-person.
Utilize MS suite:
Teams, Excel, Word, and TOPS.
Experience:
  • Packaging degree and 2-5 years of CPG / consumer packaged goods commercialization experience. (Mechanical or Chemical Engineering degree also will be considered.)
  • Experience in package development, testing, materials, and components (understanding of torques, sealing, assembly, print technologies, and document management. Molding/forming is a plus, but likely not needed for this role.
  • Knowledgeable of assembly manufacturing environments is a plus, as related to component storage, handling, package filling, capping, sealing, labeling, coding, assembly, packing, palletizing, transit, etc., ensuring a comprehensive view is considered during development and validations.
  • Track record of anticipating needs by manager or team members and effectively communicating and collaborating so that entire team is successful. Ability to work independently while keeping manager and team appraised.
  • Ability to recommend solutions that consider sustainability (PCR content and recyclability) and fit for purpose.
  • Personal leadership and organizational skills for your role within the projects and the ability to multitask and manage several projects at once.

Pay:
$35.00 - $38.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
