1Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced VistA/MUMPS Sustainment Subject Matter Expert to provide technical leadership and production support for VistA based applications. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with VistA sustainment, MUMPS programming, VistA technical architecture, production issue resolution, and Tier 2/Tier 3 support. The candidate will work closely with development, testing, operations, release management, and government stakeholders to maintain reliable mission critical healthcare systems.Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert technical guidance for VistA and MUMPS based application sustainment
- Analyze, triage, and resolve VistA defects, incidents, service requests, and production issues
- Perform root cause analysis across application code, data, configuration, workflows, interfaces, and environments
- Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 production support, including incident prioritization, escalation, workaround identification, and resolution planning
- Develop and review defect resolution plans covering remediation approach, code and data impacts, testing strategy, release considerations, and rollback planning
- Support testing, validation, release readiness, deployment planning, and post release monitoring
- Maintain technical documentation and update knowledge repositories based on system changes and issue resolutions
- Collaborate with developers, testers, product owners, release managers, operations teams, and government stakeholders
- Recommend improvements to sustainment processes, defect prevention, monitoring, backlog management, and knowledge transfer
- Support data correction, table maintenance, and application configuration activities when required
- Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, operational efficiency, and production support processes
Required Skills:
- Significant hands-on experience with VistA application sustainment, operations, maintenance, or modernization
- Strong knowledge of MUMPS programming and VistA technical architecture
- Hands-on experience with VistA routines, globals, FileMan, data dictionaries, cross references, and package dependencies
- Proven experience diagnosing and resolving production defects in legacy or mission critical applications
- Experience with Tier 2 and Tier 3 production support
- Experience with incident triage, defect management, and structured software delivery processes
- Strong understanding of root cause analysis and production issue resolution
- Experience supporting application testing, validation, releases, and deployment activities
- Strong technical documentation and communication skills
- Ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly to technical and non technical stakeholders
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Preferred Skills:
- Experience supporting Department of Veterans Affairs systems
- Experience working with federal healthcare platforms
- Familiarity with VA product line delivery models and federal sustainment practices
- Experience with release management and Agile delivery models
- Knowledge of DevSecOps practices and compliance requirements
- Experience with application and infrastructure monitoring
- Experience preparing root cause analysis reports
- Experience with legacy system modernization initiatives
- Experience with data correction and table maintenance activities
- Experience providing technical mentoring and knowledge transfer
Education Requirement:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent professional experience may be considered.Our Commitment to
