What to Expect Tesla is seeking a highly motivated and accomplished Industrial Engineer to join the Megapack manufacturing operations team in Brookshire, TX. This role is critical to the success of one of the world's most advanced energy storage manufacturing facilities. You'll serve as a core driver of industrial engineering initiatives-from capacity and buffer planning to OEE improvement and operational cost reduction-working in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment. This position requires a passion for systems thinking, optimization, and data-driven decision making. You'll collaborate closely with Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Supply Chain, Material Flow, Facilities, and other cross-functional teams to ramp and sustain high-volume energy product manufacturing at scale. Your work will directly impact throughput, efficiency, cost, and scalability of Megapack operations. This role will be based out of the Greater Houston Area (TX) and will require 90% travel to the Bay Area (CA) to support early builds and validation support for the first 3-6 months. What You'll Do
Own and manage capacity planning for all Megapack manufacturing lines
Develop buffer strategies, shift schedules, and labor models
Perform line balancing, WIP management, and headcount optimization to align with takt time and throughput goals
Support production planning by modeling throughput capabilities and identifying capacity constraints
Conduct discrete event simulation modeling and statistical analysis to influence strategic decisions
Evaluate existing and future state factory layouts and workflows to support footprint expansion and efficient space utilization
Identify opportunities for OEE improvement, non-conformance material (NCM) burndown, and overall factory OpEx reduction
Design and improve assembly line layouts, support space, and amenity areas using a combination of quantitative analysis and lean principles
Lead continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations and apply structured problem-solving methodologies
Develop and implement standardized metrics, dashboards, and visualization tools to monitor and drive performance What You'll Bring
3+ years of hands-on experience in Industrial Engineering within a manufacturing or supply chain environment (energy, automotive, or warehousing preferred)
Degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
Proven track record in driving complex engineering projects across cross-functional teams, excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to effectively convey complex ideas across technical and non-technical stakeholders
Experience in capacity modeling, simulation (FlexSIM or similar), and operations research
Deep familiarity with lean manufacturing, process optimization, work measurement, and line balancing techniques
Experience with 2D CAD for layout design, 3D CAD for Process Engineering Support for fixture designs, understanding of automation, semi-automated lines, and robotics
Proficient in Revit, SQL, Excel VBA, Python, and data visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
Demonstrated ability to apply lean tools (VSM, 5S, Kaizen, Yamazumi charts) and Six Sigma principles (DMAIC, Control Plans)
Experience with WMS or ERP platforms and understanding of master data, BOMs, and MRP logic
Provide support to Engineering, Operations, Inventory Control, Production, Quality, Logistics, NPI, Training in all formats dependent on business need and maturity Compensation and Benefits
