In person - San Jose, CA About the Role We are a deep-tech semiconductor hardware startup that designs and builds our own growth equipment in-house, and we are currently building out an R D cleanroom and a next-generation MOCVD platform. We are seeking a hands-on junior Mechanical Technician with a mechanical engineering background to help build, install, maintain, and troubleshoot our vacuum, gas delivery, and thermal process equipment. You will work closely with our hardware engineers in our fully-equipped San Jose lab and workshop. No prior industry experience is required: recent graduates with strong mechanical aptitude are encouraged to apply, and we will train you on vacuum, gas, and semiconductor equipment.
Responsibilities Vacuum Systems:
Assemble and install chambers, KF/CF/ISO flanges, pumps, valves, gauges, and feedthroughs; perform leak checks
Gas Delivery:
Build and modify gas lines using tube bending and Swagelok/VCR fittings; install mass flow controllers, regulators, and gas panels
Thermal Equipment:
Install and service tube furnaces, heaters, and temperature control hardware
Fixtures:
Design and fabricate simple brackets, fixtures, and enclosures using CAD and basic shop tools
Electrical Support:
Assist with wiring panels, sensors, and controllers under engineer supervision
Maintenance:
Preventive maintenance on pumps, chillers, scrubbers/abatement, and exhaust systems; keep spare parts inventory and maintenance logs
Installation:
Support equipment moves, facility hookups (power, exhaust, gas, water), and cleanroom installations
Safety:
Follow all procedures for hazardous gases, high vacuum, high temperature, and electrical systems; keep a clean and organized workspace
Requirements Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience; recent graduates welcome
Mechanical Aptitude:
Comfortable with hand and power tools; enjoys assembling, taking apart, and fixing mechanical systems
Drawings:
Able to read mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and schematics; basic CAD (SolidWorks/Fusion 360) Attention to
Detail:
Careful, methodical work with strong safety awareness
Learning Mindset:
Eager to learn vacuum, gas, and semiconductor equipment on the job and follow procedures precisely
Physical:
