Summary Under close supervision, the Plant Technician Associate Intern performs routine, semi-skilled operational and maintenance work in support of power plant operations. Assists with monitoring and inspecting plant equipment, including gas turbines, generators, transformers, pumps, switchyard systems, and related auxiliary equipment. Supports the inspection, repair, maintenance, installation, and construction of plant equipment and structures, as well as testing, surveying, and layout activities. Works effectively with individuals at all levels. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Demonstrates ethical conduct and follows established operating practices and procedures to prevent injuries, illnesses, and environmental noncompliance. Compiles with all applicable government and company environmental, safety, and health regulations. Exhibits a strong work ethic and integrity while communicating and collaborating effectively with employees and contractors. Maintains safe, orderly work areas; uses appropriate tools and equipment; and wears required protective clothing and devices. Assists with equipment checks to support the safe and efficient startup, operation, and shutdown of turbines, generators, boilers, pumps, exciters, transformers, switchyard systems, and auxiliary equipment. As directed; operates valves, pumps, electrical disconnects, breakers, and controls. Reports abnormal equipment conditions and alarms to the lead O&M Technician or supervisor. Records and reviews data in the plant logbook. As directed, assists with monitoring, inspecting, installing, removing, testing, adjusting, calibrating, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical, electronic, instrumentation, and plant control systems and components. Assists in performing basic electrical interlock and circuit-breaker trip checks to verify proper operation. Monitors control systems through a computer interface. Assists others using elementary, schematic, wiring, and control diagrams to locate, troubleshoot, and repair systems with electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, or hydraulic components. Uses electrical and instrumentation test equipment to troubleshoot and calibrate plant equipment. Assists in performing basic mechanical maintenance work including dismantling, rebuilding, adjusting, aligning, packing, and cleaning equipment. Cleans and prepares surfaces for painting. Performs painting using brushes or spray equipment. Loads, unloads, moves, opens, and handles materials, supplies and equipment. Operates machine shop and portable machine equipment such as shapers, drill presses, and similar machining equipment to produce accurate measurements on all shapes. Must be able to master the use of appropriate tools and equipment. Maintains tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition. Performs basic predictive and preventive maintenance work. Inspects, monitors, lubricates, troubleshoots and tests plant equipment to determine conditions such as wear, corrosion, and deposits. Performs inspections and basic corrective maintenance activities on plant equipment and components as directed. Assists in conducting tests and inspections to ensure proper operation of the plant. Utilizes the work management systems to initiate, retrieve and update work orders, material requests, preventative maintenance activities and time entry, etc. Uses computer applications and software programs to extract data and report status to ensure plant reliability and efficiency. Produces, revises, and maintains records, technical reports, procedures, and plant drawings as directed. Assists in conducting investigations and utilizing computer applications and programs, technical manuals, and procedures, etc. to ensure reliable and efficient plant operations. Works under the direction of senior level O&M Technicians and plant supervision. Assists other employees as needed and directs contractor work as required. Conducts and/or actively participants in job briefings and safety discussions with plant employees and contractors. Assists in managing the site inventory. Assists senior level employees in adding/deleting items to inventory and competing required inventory audits. Makes regular inspection rounds of plant electrical, instrumentation and mechanical equipment during unit operations to inspect plant equipment for conditions that require adjustment and/or repairs. Reports all findings to the control room and/or supervision. Assists other employees in making necessary corrections, adjustments and/or repairs to plant systems and equipment. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications Education:

Must be working towards an Associate Degree in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Power Plant Technologies, or Industrial Engineering Technology.

Experience:

Must possess the appropriate State driver's license. Must satisfactorily complete, in such time frames as may be established by the Company, all required training and job demonstrations and pass an examination as determined by the company to advance to the O&M Plant Technician classification in order to remain eligible for continued employment.

Must have the ability to work effectively with other employees and contractors and learn to instruct and direct the work of others. Must be able to learn and perform duties in accordance with company rules, safety policies and procedures, OSHA environmental laws/regulations, and applicable operating & maintenance instructions/procedures. Must be able to learn how to use the tools and equipment required to perform work tasks. Must possess the ability to physically and mentally perform required work in an often distracting and multitasking plant environment and understand the care and attention required for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the equipment. Must demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills and possess the ability to communicate effectively with peers and plant management. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk; sit; work with hands and fingers; push, pull, reach, and lift objects; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Must have close visual acuity to analyze data, perform inspections, view computer monitors, and assemble parts. Work Environment This position requires working in inside and outside environments; environments containing fumes, odors, dust, gases, and high amounts of noise. Additionally, this position requires the ability to work in proximity to moving parts and vehicles, at heights, on grating, platforms, and catwalks.
