To complement our team, we are looking for a customer- and teamoriented individual for our division Plasma Control Technologies at the San Jose site as a Senior Software Eng. - Smart Manufacturing For over 75 years, we have been following our curiosity. Our developments make an important contribution to safer, more efficient and more sustainable production, mobility and communication. In the Plasma Control Technologies (PCT) division, we manufacture specialized components that are required for the precise control of plasma processes and are used in the production of memory chips or touch screens for sensors, smartphones or tablets.

Summary:

Develop, expand, and maintain a next-generation production test platform supporting Smart Manufacturing and Digital Operations.

The jobholder works closely with the platform architect and manufacturing teams to simplify test execution, deployment, and operational support.

The role delivers scalable, reliable software for real-world production environments and integrates manufacturing systems including MES, PLM, industrial instrumentation, robotics, and machine vision.

What you will do:

Develop and maintain clean, efficient, well-documented Python code.

Expand automated test suites and add support for new products.

Partner with the platform architect to implement platform improvements and resolve production issues.

Maintain and enhance test sequencing frameworks such as OpenTAP or comparable platforms.

Integrate manufacturing test equipment using VISA and SCPI protocols.

Build and support REST APIs and backend services using FastAPI.

Support deployments across edge, on-premises, and Azure cloud environments.

Improve internal tools to increase factory efficiency and operational reliability.

Participate in code reviews; contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and software quality practices.

Mentor junior engineers and support team development.

Other duties as assigned.

What you bring:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related STEM field.
  • Five or more years of professional software development experience, including four to six years of strong hands-on Python development.
  • Experience delivering and supporting software in production or operations environments, not solely research and development.
  • Knowledge of behavior-driven development, test-driven development, software development lifecycle practices, and Git-based workflows; GitLab preferred.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools and modern DevOps practices.
  • Preferred knowledge: OpenTAP, NI TestStand, or custom Python test frameworks; robotics, machine vision, or industrial automation.
  • Preferred tools: OPC-UA, Modbus, PLC integration, Docker, Azure EFLOW, Redis, MQTT, Kafka, and hybrid edge/on-premises/Azure infrastructure.

Ability to work fully on-site and engage directly with manufacturing teams. Compensation for this sales role is comprised of both a base salary plus Sales Incentive Compensation (together, the "Total Compensation"). The estimated annual Total Compensation for this role is $150,000 to $160,000.
