Since 1970, Acme Wire Products has specialized in precision fabrication of components for industrial applications from custom baskets for material handling, sterilization, hospital equipment or accessories, to fan and machine guards, to sporting goods and safety applications to cable management hardware. We provide component parts to a variety of industries such as safety & sporting good equipment, medical accessories, heating & cooling products, telecommunications, food service and material handling. Acme Wire Products, a 2nd generation family business, operates a multi-shift facility with production processes that include wire cutting, metal stamping, machining, forming & fabrication, arc and resistance welding, sub assembly, powder coating, custom kitting and packaging. The Tool Design Engineer will provide engineering support from estimating through customer part acceptance as well as developing innovative methods of meeting customer needs to ensure Acme Wire's position as the technical leader in wire and metal fabricated products.
Principal Responsibilities:
Create 2D & 3D designs of compound bend dies, check gauges & weld & assembly fixtures. Design & detail a broad range of tooling. Participate in design reviews and project coordination. Assist Marketing/Sales or General Management with technical support on potential new jobs as well as existing business. On a timely basis, develop engineering estimates for all quotations that are accurate, competitive and profitable. Interact with manufacturing, tool makers, tool vendors, inspection and other department supervisors to solve & correct existing and expected manufacturing problems. Establish and maintain accurate engineering data on new and existing products for entry into manufacturing control system. Provide technical support to production operations relating to design and function of tooling. Evaluate and recommend solutions and cost reduction ideas. Seek, evaluate and recommend new and innovative approaches to improve manufacturing operations, including equipment purchases, new techniques in tooling, methods, quality and other cost reduction ideas. Perform related duties as directed by Manager.
Qualifications:
Minimum of manufacturing or mechanical engineering degree 5-10 years experience in manufacturing, industrial and/or design engineering in metalworking and assembly industry Experience in job shop or contract manufacturing and make to order production environments Function well independently and be a self-starter, but also be part of a management team satisfying internal and external customers Thorough knowledge of CAD/CAM tool design including dimensioning and tolerancing Direct experience following designs from concept through tooling to fabrication & assembly Apply through Indeed posting
