Responsibilities include:
Selecting and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria in developing and/or modifying complex designs for the Department of Physics. Providing complex mechanical and electro-mechanical design for one-of-a kind instrument components that cannot be obtained commercially. Performs Computer-Aided Design (CAD) for specialized research instrumentation developed in collaboration with faculty and staff. Providing advanced expertise in the use of 3D printing technologies—including FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling), SLA (Stereolithography), and metal additive manufacturing—for the rapid and cost-effective production of custom prototypes, experimental fixtures, and specialized instrument components that cannot be readily obtained commercially. Component repair, fabrication, and design for ultra-high vacuum (UHV) components utilizing TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) and MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding. Subject matter expert for Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) for small intricate parts, hard metals, and other materials that are difficult to machine by conventional methods. Instructing lab users, including faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers, in the areas of materials, machining techniques, and fabrication methods. Qualifications A Bachelor's degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience. (
