This position is responsible for creating and maintaining 2D and 3D CAD drawings , developing mold and preform designs, preparing detailed engineering documentation, supporting mold trials, inspecting bottles and components, and collaborating with internal engineering teams, sales, customers, and global technical resources. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, hands-on CAD experience, excellent attention to detail, and an interest in developing deeper expertise in mold design and manufacturing. Must-Haves 2-4 year degree in Engineering, Mechanical Design, Drafting, Manufacturing Technology, or a related technical discipline Experience working with 2D and/or 3D CAD software Experience with AutoCAD, SOLIDWORKS, Creo, or similar CAD/design software Ability to create and interpret technical drawings, assembly drawings, and detailed part drawings Strong understanding of dimensions, tolerances, measurements, and mechanical drawings Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to understand how individual components interact within an assembly Ability to accurately document technical specifications and engineering information Strong computer skills and ability to learn new engineering/design systems Excellent attention to detail and accuracy Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to work collaboratively with engineering, manufacturing, sales, customers, and technical teams Willingness to provide hands-on support during mold trials and technical evaluations Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining accuracy Key ResponsibilitiesMold Design & CAD Create and modify 2D and 3D mold designs using CAD software. Develop preform designs, mold assembly drawings, mold part drawings, and detailed component drawings . Prepare drawings for new molds as well as modifications to existing mold designs. Review drawings for dimensional accuracy, manufacturability, and compliance with design requirements. Update existing CAD files and engineering drawings based on design changes or production requirements. Maintain accurate drawing revisions and engineering documentation. Engineering Documentation Prepare and maintain mold specifications and technical documentation . Document design requirements, dimensions, materials, tolerances, and other engineering specifications. Maintain organized engineering files and design records. Support engineering change documentation and drawing revisions. Container Design Assist with the design and development of containers, bottles, and preforms . Review customer requirements and translate them into practical design specifications. Support design modifications based on customer feedback, testing results, or manufacturing requirements. Work with internal and global engineering resources on pilot and production mold designs. Mold Trials & Technical Support Provide technical support during mold trials and testing activities . Assist molding engineers with troubleshooting mold or container-related issues. Review trial results and recommend design modifications when necessary. Support both pilot mold and production mold development . Work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to identify and resolve technical issues. Bottle & Product Inspection Perform inspections and evaluations of bottles, containers, preforms, and molded components. Verify dimensions and product specifications against engineering requirements. Document inspection results and communicate findings to the appropriate teams. Assist in identifying potential design, quality, or manufacturing issues. 3D Scanning & Prototyping Support 3D scanning, measurement, and prototyping activities as needed. Assist with evaluating prototype parts and comparing them to engineering specifications. Utilize available design and measurement technology to support product development and troubleshooting. Parts & Sample Management Assist with organizing and maintaining mold parts, samples, drawings, and technical documentation. Coordinate samples and components needed for testing, customer review, or engineering evaluation. Ensure engineering samples and related documentation are properly identified and maintained. Preferred / Plus
Qualifications Previous experience with mold design or tooling design Experience in plastics, injection molding, blow molding, or manufacturing Experience designing bottles, containers, preforms, or plastic components Familiarity with mold trials and manufacturing processes Experience with 3D scanning or measurement equipment Experience with prototyping or product development Knowledge of GD&T Experience working with international engineering or manufacturing teams Familiarity with engineering change/revision processes Hands-on manufacturing or machine shop exposure Education & Experience Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Drafting, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline preferred. Entry-level candidates with strong CAD skills and relevant technical education may be considered. Previous mold, plastics, tooling, or manufacturing experience is highly desirable. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a mechanically inclined designer or engineer who enjoys CAD work, detailed technical drawings, problem-solving, and hands-on manufacturing support . They do not necessarily need extensive mold design experience if they have a strong technical foundation, CAD capability, attention to detail, and the willingness to learn.
