In this role, you will collaborate with internal and external entities—including Substation Design, Planning, Asset Management, Operations, Legal & Real Estate, and Local Government—to deliver capital and maintenance projects safely and efficiently. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Serve on capital, competitive, and maintenance design projects by checking contractor designs, issuing approved packages for construction, and participating in conceptual design and routing. Collaborate with and review designs created by other Engineers and Associate Engineers. Prepare cost estimates, material requisitions, technical specifications, and drawings for internally designed projects. Respond to technical inquiries from Planning and other departments regarding existing or future transmission and substation projects. Participate in work group policy development, negotiation, and cross-functional collaboration. Provide technical support and troubleshooting recommendations to field personnel and contractors during installation and maintenance. Generate internal/external system reports and participate in professional training to maintain industry expertise.
Requirements & Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering (or relevant, equivalent experience/education). Power system coursework is preferred for electrical engineering majors.
Experience:
Minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience as an Electric Transmission Line or Substation Design Engineer.
Technical Knowledge:
Familiarity with utility system operations, planning, protection, design, construction, and maintenance functions. Working knowledge of NESC, ACI, and AISC standards is a plus for civil engineering candidates.
Software & Skills:
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access) with the ability to quickly learn job-specific software.
Soft Skills:
Strong analytical problem-solving, documentation, and multi-tasking abilities.
