Salary/Exempt Reports to: Engineering Manager About the Role This is a critical "bridge" role for our Whitestown fiber board plant. Working a Tuesday-Saturday late shift, you will overlap with the afternoon production run and take full ownership of equipment maintenance after production halts at 6:00 PM. Using your expertise in Siemens PLCs and industrial automation, you will execute complex post-production repairs, troubleshooting, and analytics-driven process improvements so the morning crew walks into a fully operational line at 6:00 AM.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide afternoon production support and lead major automation/equipment repairs after the 6:00 PM production shift ends. Develop, program, and troubleshoot industrial automation systems using Siemens PLCs (S7-1200, S7-1500, TIA Portal, Step 7, WinCC, etc.). Design and implement SQL databases to collect, store, and analyze process data. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate PLC-controlled systems with enterprise-level databases and MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems). Conduct system diagnostics and root cause analysis to resolve automation and process control issues. Maintain and update technical documentation, ladder logic diagrams, and system schematics.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in industrial automation, PLC programming, and troubleshooting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficiency in Siemens PLC programming (TIA Portal, Step 7, WinCC, HMI development). Experience working with SQL databases for data collection, storage, and analysis. Strong understanding of industrial networks and communication protocols (OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, Profinet). Comfortable working independently during off-hours to complete complex machine interventions. Certification in Siemens PLC programming or industrial automation is a strong plus.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Periods of working on feet and using tools while evaluating manufacturing equipment. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
Pay:
$85,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
