Design Engineer Custom Product Design | SolidWorks |
Leadership Growth Opportunity Location:
Bowling Green, KY WHTalent Solutions is partnering with an established manufacturing organization to identify a Senior Design Engineer to join a highly collaborative Product Engineering team. This is a hands-on design role focused on developing custom retail fixtures, self-checkout systems, kiosks, and point-of-sale solutions used by some of the largest retailers in North America. Unlike highly repetitive manufacturing environments, this position offers significant variety and ownership. Engineers are involved from concept through production, solving unique customer challenges and creating designs that ultimately move into manufacturing. For the right individual, this role also offers a long-term growth path into Engineering Leadership as senior members of the team approach retirement. What You'll Do Design custom products and assemblies using SolidWorks Create 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings, and bills of materials Develop sheet metal, fabricated, and assembled product designs for manufacturing Partner closely with Sales, Product Management, Manufacturing, and Purchasing teams Manage projects from concept through production release Generate engineering documentation and manufacturing support packages Support design modifications, product improvements, and engineering change requests Assist manufacturing teams with troubleshooting and design optimization Participate in occasional customer site visits for measurements, product evaluations, and design support Contribute to future product development initiatives and engineering process improvements Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline 5+ years of product design experience in a manufacturing environment Advanced SolidWorks experience Strong understanding of sheet metal design and fabrication principles Experience creating production-ready drawings, assemblies, and BOMs Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects simultaneously Strong communication and collaboration skills Preferred Qualifications Experience designing custom manufactured products, fixtures, kiosks, enclosures, displays, or similar fabricated products Knowledge of ERP systems, manufacturing processes, and product lifecycle management Experience supporting products from concept through production Exposure to design-for-manufacturing (DFM) principles Familiarity with AutoCAD, Inventor, or other parametric design software What Makes This Opportunity Different High-autonomy engineering environment Significant product ownership and design responsibility Diverse custom projects rather than repetitive production design Direct exposure to manufacturing operations Long-term career growth into Engineering Supervisor or Engineering Manager roles Stable organization seeking engineers who want to build a career, not simply their next stop
