Job Description

Precast Engineer Direct Hire-Full time Lake Charles, LA Position Summary Contracting Company is seeking a Precast Engineer responsible for the design, analysis, and technical support of prestressed and precast concrete systems. This role supports projects from design through fabrication and erection while ensuring compliance with engineering standards and project requirements.
Essential Functions Structural Design & Analysis:
Perform structural design and analysis of prestressed and precast concrete elements - beams, columns, wall panels, piles, and related systems — under the responsible charge of a licensed Professional Engineer.
Specialty System Design:
Design and evaluate specialty concrete systems, including underground utility trenches, electrical / communication duct banks, and deep foundation systems (precast and prestressed piles).
Engineering Documentation:
Prepare and review engineering calculations, shop drawings, and erection drawings to ensure accuracy and constructability.
Fabrication Interface & Verification:
Provide engineering presence at the yard to verify that fabrication matches design intent, identify deviations early, and coordinate corrections before product is cast.
Coordination:
Coordinate with detailers, production teams, quality, and field personnel to ensure alignment between design intent and fabrication / erection.
Project Support:
Review and respond to RFIs, submittals, and design revisions throughout the project lifecycle.
Code Compliance:
Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes and standards, including IBC, ACI, and PCI requirements.
Value Engineering:
Support optimization and value engineering efforts to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness of precast systems.
Production & Erection Support:
Provide technical support during fabrication and field erection, including troubleshooting design or constructability issues.
Detailing Support & Development:
Provide guidance and training to detailing personnel to ensure alignment with engineering design intent. Knowledge, Abilities, & Skills for
Success Technical Expertise:
Knowledge of prestressed concrete behavior, PCI design standards, load paths, connection design, and erection stability.
Structural Systems Understanding:
Familiarity with underground and buried structure design, including soil interaction, durability, and applied loading conditions.
Software Proficiency:
Experience with structural design and analysis tools such as ETABS, Tekla Tedds, Eriksson Technologies, or similar platforms.
Industry Knowledge:
Understanding of precast production processes, erection practices, and lifting design considerations.
Project Management Skills:
Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Communication Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Professional Attributes:
High attention to detail, strong problem-solving ability, and focus on constructability and efficiency.
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in civil or Structural Engineering required. Experience (Preferred): Minimum of four (4) years of structural engineering experience with design exposure to prestressed and/or precast concrete. Related disciplines such as prestressed bridge girder design or tilt-up wall panel design are encouraged; PCI-specific practices will be trained on the job. Alternative Experience (Can be Considered): Minimum of four (4) years of structural engineering experience with design exposure to buildings, foundations or other relatable products. PCI-specific practices will be trained on the job.
Licensure:
Engineer Intern (EI) required; Professional Engineer (PE) preferred. Staff who are not yet licensed work under the responsible charge of a licensed Professional Engineer.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
Must successfully complete drug screening, physical testing, and all required onboarding.
