Engineering Instructor The Organization Founded in 2017, the New Orleans Career Center (NOCC) is an independent nonprofit focused on career preparation and technical training for five industry sectors: Healthcare, Building Trades, Engineering and Manufacturing, Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management, and Digital Production. NOCC partners with employers to design high school and adult courses aligned to high-demand employment. This role emphasizes project-based learning, where students apply engineering principles through real-world projects that connect digital design to physical creation. The instructor will teach 3D modeling using industry-standard software, support students in earning relevant certifications, and serve as an adjunct dual enrollment instructor, providing opportunities for students to earn college-level engineering credits. In addition to classroom instruction, this role oversees the daily management of a fully equipped Makerspace, ensuring all tools, equipment, and software are operational, safe, and up to date. The instructor will also develop Makerspace-centered curriculum, manage materials and inventory, and support the growth of extracurricular opportunities such as a robotics team. This position requires a balance of instructional expertise, technical knowledge, and program management skills to create a dynamic learning environment that prepares students for postsecondary education and careers in engineering and advanced manufacturing. Responsibilities Instruction Deliver engaging instruction for first-year high school engineering students using a project-based learning curriculum Design and implement hands-on engineering projects aligned to 3D modeling certification standards, connecting digital design to physical fabrication Provide instruction in 3D modeling using industry-standard software tools Serve as an adjunct dual enrollment instructor, enabling students to earn college-level engineering credits Makerspace Management & Instruction Oversee daily operations of the Makerspace to ensure a safe, organized, and productive environment Maintain all equipment to ensure it is fully functional, clean, and operating safely Demonstrate working knowledge of Makerspace equipment and associated software Ensure all machine software is properly installed and regularly updated Manage inventory of materials and consumables, including tracking usage and reordering supplies Develop and deliver Makerspace-focused lessons and curriculum Program Development & Support Support the development, launch, and ongoing coaching of a student robotics team Ensure all instructional and lab computer software is properly installed, licensed, and up to date Create and manage purchase orders for equipment, materials, and instructional resources Required Skills Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals, design principles, and project-based learning methodologies Proficiency in 3D modeling and CAD software used in industry (e.g., Autodesk, SolidWorks, or similar) Ability to design and facilitate hands-on, fabrication-based learning experiences Working knowledge of Makerspace equipment (e.g., 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines) and associated software Understanding of safety procedures and best practices in a lab/Makerspace environment Effective classroom management, instructional delivery, and student engagement skills Strong organizational skills, including inventory management and equipment maintenance Ability to integrate technology and ensure proper installation, updates, and functionality of software systems Experience developing curriculum and aligning instruction to certification or credentialing standards Strong communication and collaboration skills with students, staff, and external partners Preferred Experience Prior experience teaching high school engineering, STEM, or a related technical subject Experience delivering project-based or experiential learning in an educational setting Background in industry engineering, manufacturing, or product design Experience teaching or supporting dual enrollment or college-level coursework Familiarity with 3D modeling certification pathways and credentialing programs Experience managing or operating a Makerspace or fabrication lab Experience coaching or supporting robotics teams or engineering-related student organizations Experience with budgeting, procurement, and creating purchase orders for educational or technical programs Proven ability to build partnerships with industry, higher education, or community organizations This role reports directly to: Director of Specialized Pathways Compensation and Benefits Competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
