Role:
As a Senior Product Engineer, Additive, you will design and direct manufacturing processes that translate customer designs into printable, repeatable production processes for aerospace and defense products. You will support new product introduction and continuous improvement of products already in production. The role involves developing optimized production parts using advanced manufacturing, automation, and lean manufacturing methods. You will define the processes, procedures, work instructions, and systems needed to produce components and subassemblies to customer specifications, drawing on expertise in product design, fabrication, assembly, work-holding, cutting tools, and materials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate customer designs and provide Design for Additive Manufacturing feedback
- Synthesize technical requirements to support cost estimates, technical risk assessments, and development timelines
- Partner with the product team to optimize processing intent for customer requirements
- Own process development for print setup and printing operations
- Lead materials properties development, simulation analysis, layout optimization, support structure design, and stock additions
- Partner with quality teams to ensure appropriate inspection techniques meet customer requirements in development and production environments
- Support the development of manufacturing specifications, solid models, drawings, and other process documentation
- Write and maintain work instructions and process-related quality documentation
- Adapt existing processes for new products while maintaining proper file, program, and revision control
- Support operations with troubleshooting and problem-solving for printing processes
- Contribute to continuous improvement of products and manufacturing processes
- Integrate additive workflows with fabrication, assembly, machining, and other downstream operations
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of progressive, hands-on experience in product or applications development using laser powder bed fusion or a similar additive manufacturing technology
- Bachelor?s degree in Mechanical, Materials, Aerospace, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field preferred
- Expert-level proficiency in advanced 3D CAD software, such as Siemens NX, Creo, or SolidWorks
- Experience with 3D printing build-preparation tools, such as Magics, nTopology, or Amphyon
- Deep knowledge of GD&T, statistical process capability, tolerance stack-up analysis, and complex DFM/DfAM constraints
- Experience using ERP systems in a batch manufacturing environment
- Ability to interpret customer requirements and translate them into robust manufacturing processes
- Strong documentation, technical communication, and problem-solving skills
Preferred:
- Experience working in an AS9100-certified environment
- Strong working knowledge of subtractive manufacturing operations, including 5-axis milling, turning, and EDM
- Experience integrating subtractive manufacturing with additive workflows
- Experience supporting aerospace and defense products
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing, automation, and continuous improvement methods
- Experience with materials development and simulation-driven process optimization Active Filters
