We are a design-engineer-build firm. We fabricate parts and assemblies in our 50,000 sq.ft. factory from metals, composites and other alternative materials utilizing Industry 4.0 machines and advanced manufacturing techniques. These include 3-D printing, CNC routing and cutting, laser and plasma cutting and 6-axis robot use.
Position Description:
We are looking for an individual with a good working knowledge of manufacturing processes for producing parts and assemblies. Must be able to work under minimal supervision in a collaborative, multi-tasking, quick-paced environment. The successful candidate should be able to review designs for parts and assemblies in SolidWorks and AutoCAD; guide and train shop personnel in the manufacture of first parts/assemblies, offer recommendations to improve manufacturability; and develop and iterate on tools, fixtures, and programs to produce parts in an efficient and repeatable manner. You must have a love for making things and the doggedness to get through the learning curve and development cycle. The types of processes we have are CNC cutting with lasers, plasma and routers, CNC bending, 3D printing, 6-axis cutting and welding, CNC turning and machining.
Duties and Responsibilities will include:
Design and Drafting:
Utilize good engineering practices, material properties, regulations and specification requirements to design tools, fixtures, and manufacturing cell layouts in SolidWorks and AutoCAD. Provide 3D models and drawings to support manufacturing of these items. Design for
Manufacturing:
Use good design for manufacturing practices to translate 3D models and drawings into producible parts utilizing RPG's production methods and equipment.
Setup and Programming:
Be familiar with, or able to learn, in-house production processes, and CAM packages to be able to assist in the programming / translating designs from CAD into various CNC equipment and 3D printers.
Prototyping:
Work with Production and Engineering to develop production processes appropriate to the scale of each job. This will involve hands-on tool use and time on the shop floor. Must have knowledge of basic machining and fabrication processes or the ability to learn from the staff quickly.
Documentation :
Maintain organized records and conform to all company configuration control practices. Develop SOPs, work instructions, checklists, and other materials to support production. Update or author procedures, manuals, and other engineering related documentation. Write specifications as needed.
Problem Solving :
Collaborate in troubleshooting design- and production-related issues.
Troubleshooting :
Use technical knowledge about the design of products to troubleshoot and remedy failures, either from a design standpoint or in the field as part of installation or maintenance activities.
Safety :
Use good engineering practices and safety regulations in the design of compliant parts for the transit and rail industry. Observe shop safety procedures.
Travel:
Be able to travel occasionally to client sites (Transit and Rail shops, manufacturing facilities, etc.) to perform source inspections, design reviews, first article deliveries, installation support, maintenance support etc. Most travel is conducted during a standard business week.
Subject Matter Expert:
Gain familiarity with process requirements of critical manufacturing operations such as welding, cutting, FRP layup and bonding. Create or update internal process documentation to ensure successful completion of these operations. Interface with Production and Quality to confirm processes are being correctly followed once established. Complete all other tasks/duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
B.S. in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent.
Work Experience:
5+ Years of engineering support in a production environment.
Software Experience:
SolidWorks 2020+ - test to demonstrate at least intermediate proficiency; AutoCAD 2020+; Microsoft Office. CNC Programming - 2+ years of programming in a production environment on some type of equipment. Excellent communication skills.
Desired Qualifications:
Rail or transit industry design experience Knowledge of rail and transit industry regulations Working knowledge of SolidWorks PDM and SolidWorks Simulation Solidworks CSWP certification Hands-on fabrication experience and machine maintenance (machining, sheet metal, CNC operations) Programming experience, CAM packages (Gibbs, Solidworks, Vectric); Nesting software; 6-axis robotics ( Fanuc, ABB, RoboDK) Experience with production optimization methodologies, including: Lean, six sigma, kaizen; Root cause analysis.
