Job Title:
Manufacturing Engineer Job Description The Manufacturing Engineer will work within a creative solutions department that operates in a custom, job-shop environment, typically producing small batches of 1-10 pieces. The primary focus is on pump skid packages for chillers, with additional work on air handlers and other commercial products. This role manages bills of materials (BOMs), develops and maintains work instructions, and leads factory transformation projects and equipment implementation to improve productivity, quality, and overall manufacturing performance. Responsibilities + Design and develop manufacturing processes to support factory transformation projects and the implementation of new equipment. + Improve productivity, product quality, equipment performance, energy consumption, and reduce downtime across manufacturing operations. + Provide technical and subject matter expertise to resolve manufacturing process issues and product design problems. + Serve as a resource for cause-and-effect investigations, statistical studies, and corrective action planning to address process and quality issues. + Design manufacturing flow lines, workstation layouts, and station controls that optimize efficiency, operating costs, and product quality. + Maintain and uphold manufacturing standards, including machine capability, process maps, set-ups, quality controls, tooling and fixture records, routings, and cycle times. + Generate clear work instructions, job breakdowns, and standardized work documents to ensure quality at the source and alignment with product and manufacturing specifications. + Control and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) for custom pump skid packages, air handlers, and other commercial products. + Support the creation and continuous improvement of working instructions for small-batch, custom manufacturing jobs. + Partner with on-site Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) personnel to ensure all equipment meets safety regulations and is compliant with OSHA requirements. + Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary engineering team to support factory implementation initiatives and process automation projects. + Contribute to project management activities related to new equipment, process changes, and system implementations, including an Oracle-related initiative. Essential Skills + 5+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment. + Hands-on experience in manufacturing engineering within a custom or job-shop setting, preferably with small-batch production. + Proficiency with AutoCAD for layout and design work. + Experience with 3D CAD software; Creo is strongly preferred. + Experience using Windchill for product lifecycle or data management. + Aptitude for mechanical and electrical applications as they relate to equipment and manufacturing processes. + Demonstrated ability to design manufacturing flow lines, workstation layouts, and station controls. + Experience creating and maintaining work instructions, job breakdowns, and standardized work documentation. + Ability to conduct cause-and-effect investigations, statistical studies, and develop corrective action plans. + Experience with project management in a manufacturing environment. + Experience in process automation within factory or production settings. + HVAC industry experience, particularly with products such as pump skid packages for chillers and air handlers. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Bachelor's degree in engineering is preferred; candidates without a four-year degree are encouraged to apply if they bring strong practical experience and relevant skills. + Experience with Creo as the primary 3D CAD platform. + Familiarity with Apriso or similar manufacturing execution systems (MES). + Experience working with Oracle or similar enterprise systems in a manufacturing context. + Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams. + Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering team, including electrical and mechanical engineers. + Comfort working in a custom manufacturing environment with low-volume, high-mix production. + Alignment with continuous improvement and factory transformation initiatives. Work Environment This is an on-site role with core hours from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The position is embedded within a creative solutions department that functions as a custom job shop, typically producing small batches of 1-10 pieces. The primary products include pump skid packages for chillers, as well as air handlers and other commercial HVAC-related products. You will work alongside approximately 12 engineers, the majority of whom are electrical and mechanical engineers, in a collaborative and technically focused environment. The role is central to factory implementation and transformation initiatives, including an Oracle-related implementation, and involves close collaboration with on-site EHS to ensure OSHA-compliant equipment and processes. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Grand Rapids, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $48.00/hr.
