Job Description

Manufacturing Engineer Pilgrimage Search LLC Livonia, MI Job Details Full-time $85,000 - $105,000 a year 8 hours ago Benefits Dental insurance 401(k) Tuition reimbursement Retirement plan Qualifications Mechanical blueprint interpretation Customer communication Mechanical design GD&T Manufacturing facility experience Mechanical drawings Quality improvement Blueprint creation using CAD software Lean management Full Job Description Pilgrimage is recruiting for a Manufacturing Engineer to join a manufacture's Livonia plant, reporting directly to the General Manager. This is a hands-on, generalist engineering role split roughly 35-40% quoting and cost estimating, with the remainder spent on custom part and design, tooling and fixture design, and shop-floor troubleshooting and machine support. The company will consider both an experienced, plug-and-play engineer and a strong, self-directed problem-solver who is ready to grow into the role; a four-year engineering degree is preferred but not required when the skills and track record are there. Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare part quotations and cost estimates for new and existing business, working from established engineering templates and pricing models (roughly 35-40% of the role).
  • Design custom parts to meet customer functional requirements, translating customer specifications into manufacturable prints and coordinating sign-off.
  • Design and specify tooling and fixtures (e.g., stacking rail fixtures), including coordinating outside quotes for fabrication when needed.
  • Support the plant's growing stamping and EDM capability alongside the in-house progressive-die designer as the company insources product lines it previously purchased.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and GD&T, and evaluate designs for manufacturability against customer prints.
  • Provide hands-on troubleshooting support on the shop floor, including machine repair support and light PLC controls work.
  • Support new equipment installs and process launches as the plant continues to insource product.
  • Communicate quoting and technical information clearly to ownership and, indirectly, to customers.
  • Contribute to process improvement, primarily around new product and equipment launches. Qualifications Required
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T.
  • Strong, self-directed problem-solving ability — comfortable being handed a general objective and working out the steps, not just executing a defined process.
  • Comfortable splitting time between a desk (quoting, CAD) and the shop floor.
  • Strong communication skills; able to represent engineering clearly to ownership and customers. CAD software experience (SolidWorks preferred). Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent hands-on manufacturing experience — a degree is not a hard requirement when the skills are there.
  • 4+ years in a manufacturing engineering or related role, ideally in a smaller, high-mix manufacturing environment.
  • Estimating or quoting experience.
  • Lean manufacturing, SPC, and quality documentation familiarity.
  • Interest or experience in tooling/die design.
  • Basic PLC controls familiarity.
