You are capable of working on your own initiative in a high-paced engineering environment. You have the ability to assess, provide feedback, and bring the absolute best stampings in the world into high-volume production. This role is located at our Plymouth, MI facility and reports directly to a Sr. Manager, Manufacturing Engineering.
Strategy and Development Drive Best Practices:
Contribute to the creation and implementation of best-practice stamping processes, vision, strategies, policies, and procedures to improve operational performance.
Evaluate Initiatives:
Review new business initiatives and projects, communicating their impact on stamping activities.
General and Task Management Lead Tooling Life Cycle:
Take the lead from product development through feasibility/simulation, design, construction, buyoff, delivery to Rivian, and Homeline/PPAP activities.
Manage Feasibility & Simulation:
Assist in all stamping feasibility and simulation parameters. Support establishing Class A panel tip and secondary die vectors.
Review & Optimize Designs:
Continuously improve DFM documents regarding stamping best practices. Review prototype panels for forming and surface acceptability. Review, evaluate, and provide feedback on vehicle architecture, substrates (aluminum, steel, composite, etc.), and
Provide on-site (US/Asia) tool shop support and reviews. Challenge suppliers to adhere to best practices and investment reductions. Provide initial static checks, First Panel to Gage Reviews, pattern reviews, and buyoff support at supplier locations.
Oversee Production Standards:
Assure the appropriate number of operations are followed to support press loading and program investment targets. Analyze stamping processes for material utilization and process capability.
Manage Checking Fixtures:
Oversee the construction and delivery of checking fixtures (the Fixture Engineer will be responsible for development and design).
Process Documentation:
Enforce sign-off instructions, standards, and documentation. Oversee RC and FCR creation and follow-up. Assist with RFQ package preparation.
Analyze & Resolve:
Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems efficiently.
People & Relationship Management Team Leadership:
Motivate, coach, and support the team to achieve operational success. Identify and deploy the necessary technical skill sets and resources (including external contractors) to deliver projects.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Communicate the impact of market changes on engineering design and recommend solutions that optimize costs without compromising quality.
Supplier Liaison:
Work closely with tooling suppliers to resolve quality and productivity issues.
Financial, Budget, & Metrics Control Budget Management:
Manage budgets and forecasts for contracted resources.
Process Optimization:
Ensure material optimization compliance within process parameters and develop processes exclusively for critical operations.
Track Performance:
Develop, implement, and manage Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Ensure metrics and reports are accurate and updated in a timely manner.

Qualifications and Experience Levels:
Mandatory:
Journeyman Tool and Die Maker certification.
Education/Experience:
Relevant manufacturing/engineering degree is preferred, OR >7 years of equivalent experience (>10 years for Staff level).
Industry Experience:
Significant experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment (automotive preferred).
Technical Methodologies:
Proficiency in Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing skills.
Travel & Site Requirements:
Expect to travel up to 50-60% (or as deemed necessary). Time will be spent in Stamping Tooling shops for tool reviews and buyoffs, as well as on-site for startup activities in Irvine, CA; Normal, IL; and SSN in Social Circle, GA.
