The Role We're looking for an Automation Engineer to design custom automation equipment from initial concept to a complete, manufacture-ready print package. You'll work directly with customers during design reviews, collaborate closely with our build and controls teams, and take ownership of projects from the first concept sketch to final documentation. This is a role for someone who enjoys variety and takes pride in a clean, well-thought-out design. What You'll Do Design automation equipment from initial concept to a complete print package ready for manufacturing, using SolidWorks Participate in design reviews with customers, presenting concepts and incorporating their feedback Collaborate with a cross-functional team of engineers, machinists, and controls technicians, and be open to feedback throughout the design process Research and select components, balancing quality, cost, and lead time Correctly size motors, gearboxes, and pneumatic cylinders for application-specific loads and duty cycles Specify and integrate pneumatic valve stacks into machine designs Produce clear, accurate documentation and drawings to support manufacturing, assembly, and troubleshooting What You Bring 4+ years of experience in automation or custom machine design 3+ years of hands-on SolidWorks experience Prior experience working at an automation or machine-build company Solid working knowledge of motor, gearbox, and pneumatic cylinder sizing Familiarity with pneumatic valve stacks Strong communication skills and comfort presenting designs directly to customers Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to shifting priorities Why Skylark Machine Work on genuinely varied projects — no two machines are alike See your designs built and running, not just filed away Collaborative, team environment Direct customer interaction and ownership of your projects
