Job Description

Airspeed is seeking a Wire Harness Design Engineer to develop wire harness assemblies and electrical interconnect solutions for complex electromechanical products. This is a hands-on engineering role with significant ownership and visibility. You will work directly with customers, suppliers, and engineering and manufacturing teams in the U.S. and Asia, and you will have the opportunity to follow your designs from concept through prototyping, testing, and production. Airspeed is a smaller company where engineers are trusted to do their jobs. We value sound judgment, initiative, practical problem-solving, and results—not micromanagement. If you have wire harness design experience and want a role where your work has a visible impact, we would like to hear from you. What You'll Do Design and develop wire harness assemblies and electrical interconnect systems. Work directly with customer engineers to understand requirements and integrate harnesses into equipment and assemblies. Create and maintain harness drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, bills of materials, and engineering documentation. Define harness routing, retention methods, protection strategies, and cable management solutions. Select wires, cables, terminals, connectors, seals, conduits, sleeving, and related components. Review fit, clearance, interference, and routing using 3D CAD models. Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and DFMEA activities. Work with manufacturing teams and suppliers to ensure designs are reliable, cost effective, and manufacturable. Support prototypes, testing, validation, troubleshooting, and production launches. Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations, including cost, lead time, and technical considerations. Issue purchase orders supporting engineering development and prototype builds. Identify alternative suppliers and substitute components when addressing cost, availability, lead time, or obsolescence concerns. Investigate design and production issues and implement corrective actions. Create and review Engineering Change Requests and Notices. Support continuous improvement related to product quality, reliability, manufacturability, and cost. What We're Looking For We are looking for someone with practical wire harness design experience. Experience in the following areas is especially valuable: Wire harness or cable assembly design Wiring diagrams, schematics, and harness drawings Electrical components, connectors, terminals, and wiring practices 3D CAD software such as CATIA, NX, Creo, SolidWorks, or similar Mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and technical specifications Manufacturing, supplier, or customer facing engineering Troubleshooting and problem solving Quality systems and engineering change processes A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred. If you have meaningful wire harness design experience but do not meet every listed qualification, we still encourage you to apply. Why Airspeed? At Airspeed, engineers have the opportunity to see more of the complete product-development process rather than being limited to one small piece of a larger organization.
You can expect:
Ownership — Take meaningful responsibility for your designs and projects. Autonomy — We trust experienced professionals to manage their work without unnecessary micromanagement. Visibility — Work directly with customers, suppliers, manufacturing teams, and company leadership. End to End Engineering — Participate from initial requirements through design, sourcing, prototyping, testing, and production. International Collaboration — Work with engineering and manufacturing teams in Asia. Influence — In a smaller company, good ideas can quickly become better products and processes.
