Job Description
Senior Tool & Die Design Engineer / Wire EDM Programmer About EMT Metals Founded in 1946, Engineering Manufacturing Technologies, LLC (EMT Metals) is a precision metal component manufacturer operating from a 130,000-square-foot facility in Endicott, New York. EMT provides precision stamping, CNC machining, precision sheet metal fabrication, and assembly/fulfillment capabilities to demanding industrial markets, including aerospace and defense. The Role This is not a desk-only engineering position and it is not a machine-operator-only position. EMT is looking for a technically strong tooling professional who can design the tool, program and run the Wire EDM, diagnose die and dimensional issues, and help drive the tool through stable production. The role has direct influence on tooling performance, quality, throughput, and launch execution. What You Will Own
- Progressive and transfer die design, tooling development, engineering drawings, GD&T, and bills of material.
- Wire EDM programming, setup, prove-out, operation, process optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Die build, tryout, tuning, repair, root-cause analysis, and production-readiness support.
- Precision inspection using micrometers, indicators, gage blocks, pins, and optical measurement systems.
- DFM and tooling/process improvements that reduce scrap, improve repeatability, increase throughput, and control cost.
- Cross-functional execution with Manufacturing, Quality, CNC Machining, Stamping, Maintenance, and external tooling vendors. What We Need
- 5+ years of directly relevant tooling, die design, Wire EDM, or precision machining experience; 7+ years preferred for independent ownership of complex tools.
- Strong progressive/transfer die knowledge and hands-on die troubleshooting capability.
- Advanced Wire EDM programming and setup experience.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, ESPRIT, or comparable CAD/CAM software.
- Expert blueprint reading, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and precision measurement skills.
- Strong manufacturing judgment, technical problem-solving ability, and ownership mentality.
