Electrical Design Engineer - Custom Automation Do you enjoy: Designing electrical systems for completely new machines every few months Seeing your schematics turn into real panels and working equipment on our shop floor Managing your own work with a high degree of autonomy while working in a team and developing industry leading custom industrial automation cells A varied workweek: ~75% desk, 20% shop, 5% field Making a visible impact at a small company where hard work gets noticed Dabbling in controls programming (robots, vision, PLCs, HMIs) as suits your interests and available time About the Role Engineered Vision is an automation engineering firm where you'll take on a completely new project every few months and own the electrical design from concept through deployment. We're a small, growing shop focused on improving how factory automation projects are delivered through transparency, quality, and speed, often serving demanding industries like med-tech. As our Electrical Design Engineer, you'll create the electrical designs for our custom automation cells and support them through build, test, and install. As capacity allows, you'll also have the opportunity to support our controls team with robot, machine vision, PLC, and HMI programming, based on your experience and interests. What You'll Do Create complete electrical designs for custom automation equipment in AutoCAD Electrical and/or EPLAN, including schematics, panel layouts, wire and cable lists, and bills of materials Design control panels and power distribution for automation cells, including PLC I/O, safety circuits, servo and motion drives, robot controllers, pneumatics interfaces, and vision systems Select and specify electrical components (PLCs, safety relays and controllers, drives, power supplies, sensors, terminals, enclosures) for performance, cost, and lead time Design to applicable industry standards Work closely with mechanical and controls engineers to define I/O, sequence requirements, and machine safety Join and contribute to safety risk assessment reviews of each machine and design a safety circuit accordingly Support panel builders and shop technicians during build, answer design questions, and maintain redlines and as-built documentation Support machine debug, customer run-offs (FAT), and on-site installation and commissioning (SAT) With additional capacity, support controls programming, including PLCs and HMIs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, Automation Direct), robots (FANUC, Epson, Universal Robots), and machine vision (Keyence, Cognex) There will be almost no travel requirement for this role but there may be opportunities if there is interest.
