Job Description

Our premier client is seeking a Controls Engineer in Lexington, TN to design, program, troubleshoot, and commission control systems for custom automation equipment. This is a hands-on role supporting projects from concept through machine build, testing, installation, and customer startup. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex automation challenges and is comfortable working directly with PLCs, HMIs, electrical systems, sensors, actuators, robotics, and automated manufacturing equipment. Responsibilities Design and program PLC-based control systems for custom automation equipment. Develop and troubleshoot HMI applications. Create control architectures and assist with electrical system design. Configure and integrate PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, sensors, and safety devices. Work closely with mechanical designers, electricians, machine builders, and project teams. Debug and troubleshoot automation equipment during build and testing. Participate in machine runoff, acceptance testing, installation, and startup activities. Develop machine sequences, fault recovery logic, and controls documentation. Support continuous improvement of controls standards and programming practices. Qualifications 5+ years of controls engineering, automation, or industrial manufacturing experience. Strong PLC programming experience. Allen-Bradley PLC experience preferred. Experience developing and troubleshooting HMI applications. Strong understanding of industrial electrical and controls systems.
Experience with:
Digital and analog I/O Sensors and actuators VFDs Servo and motion control systems Machine safety systems Industrial communication networks Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to diagnose both software and hardware issues. Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Experience Custom automation or machine builder experience. Industrial robotics integration. Machine vision systems. Servo motion applications and industrial networking. Equipment commissioning and startup support.
