A Manufacturing Project Engineer manages the manufacturing process from conception to completion. Supervises manufacturing teams, evaluates proposals and documentation, plans the whole manufacturing process and oversees the implementation to completion. Is the primary technical point of contact for the project.
Full-Time, Long-Term Contract Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer III to support capital projects within an active manufacturing operation in Ennis, Texas. This is a hands-on engineering position for someone who can successfully manage projects from initial concept and design through installation, commissioning, and startup. The Project Engineer will work closely with operations, maintenance, contractors, vendors, and other engineering resources to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget. This is not a desk-only engineering role. The ideal candidate is comfortable spending time on the manufacturing floor, troubleshooting equipment and processes, coordinating contractors, and providing direct support during installations and startups. Key Responsibilities Manage capital engineering projects from concept through completion Develop project scopes, cost estimates, budgets, schedules, and implementation plans Coordinate equipment design, procurement, installation, commissioning, and startup Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining project deadlines and budgets Work directly with plant operations and maintenance teams to identify and resolve equipment and process issues Coordinate and oversee contractors, vendors, and other project resources Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, equipment documentation, and technical requirements Support equipment troubleshooting and root cause analysis Plan project activities around production schedules and required downtime Ensure projects comply with OSHA requirements, site safety procedures, and environmental standards Participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Process Safety Management (PSM) activities as applicable Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, safety, productivity, and manufacturing processes Provide technical support during equipment installation, commissioning, and startup Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering required 5+ years of engineering experience Experience working in a manufacturing, industrial, or continuous production environment preferred Strong capital project management experience Demonstrated experience managing projects from design and cost estimation through installation, commissioning, and startup Ability to manage contractors, budgets, schedules, equipment installations, and production downtime Strong equipment and process troubleshooting skills Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications Knowledge of OSHA requirements and industrial safety practices Experience with root cause analysis and structured troubleshooting Strong understanding of multidisciplinary engineering principles Preferred Qualifications Experience with Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) CAD and/or Autodesk experience Experience managing projects in a continuous manufacturing environment Experience coordinating equipment installations and plant startups Work Environment This position works within an active manufacturing environment and requires regular interaction with production equipment, maintenance personnel, contractors, and operations teams. Required PPE may include hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, and other site-specific protective equipment.
