Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Senior Design Engineer leads and supports product, manufacturing, and application engineering programs from concept through production launch. This role is suited for an experienced, hands-on mechanical engineer who thrives in a manufacturing environment and enjoys owning complex designs, mentoring others, and driving high-quality, cost-effective solutions. Key Responsibilities Experience with magnetic design, modeling and analysis or motorized design preferred Lead the development of robust, manufacturable design solutions based on customer technical requirements Create, review, and approve detailed designs, models, and drawings using CAD software Analyze engineering sketches, specifications, and data to establish design factors, tolerances, and performance requirements Design parts and assemblies with strong consideration for manufacturability, cost, quality, and reliability Lead and participate in design reviews; document and implement lessons learned Evaluate, approve, and release design changes, specifications, and drawings Support prototype builds, testing, validation, and transition to production Maintain and control engineering documentation, including drawings, models, and change records Apply and support engineering tools and processes, including Phase/Gate, ECOs, DFMEA/PFMEA, DFM, tolerance stack-ups, DVP&R, PPAP, and process validation Provide technical support to Sales for customer meetings, presentations, and technical reviews Collaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations Interface directly with customers and suppliers on technical requirements, design changes, and prototype coordination Support root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives Required Skills & Competencies Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills In-depth knowledge of metals, plastics, coatings, finishes, and hardware Solid understanding of manufacturing processes including CNC machining, injection molding, welding, and milling Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to internal teams, customers, and suppliers Experience working directly with suppliers on prototype builds and design changes Strong understanding of how design decisions impact Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) Ability to lead or support quality investigations and root cause analysis Comfortable mentoring junior engineers and providing technical guidance Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical preferred) or equivalent relevant experience 5+ years of mechanical design engineering experience in a manufacturing environment Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software Strong Excel skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools Experience with DFMEA, PFMEA, DOE, and AIAG procedures preferred Familiarity with magnetic modeling concepts or simulations used in electromechanical product design is a plus What We Offer Competitive compensation based on experience Hands-on ownership of products across the full development lifecycle Opportunity to work closely with manufacturing and see designs move into production Collaborative engineering and manufacturing environment Opportunities for continued technical growth and leadership development
