Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Shift Manager is responsible for the production, quality, and attendance management for their designated shift on the transformer-grade Grain-Oriented (GO) electrical steel slitting line, as well as employee disciplinary mattersESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Set up the slitting line for each production run, determining the optimal knife clearance and shim configuration based on the specifications of the incoming Grain-Oriented (GO) electrical steel (thickness 0.23mm-1.2mm, width 500mm-1,350mm). 2. Supervise and control line tension settings during setup and operation to ensure stable, precise slitting of thin-gauge GO electrical steel without deformation, wave, or edge damage. 3. Assign daily work tasks to operators and helpers and directly supervise shift floor operations on the GO line to ensure the shift's production targets are met. 4. Perform precision quality inspections at the start, middle, and end of each production run to prevent slit-width tolerance errors, camber, burr, and surface scratches, with particular attention to: a. Achieving zero-burr knife setting appropriate to the electrical steel's material properties b. Protecting the insulation coating and surface condition of the material c. Maintaining precise control of cut-edge quality 5. Coordinate with the maintenance team on preventive maintenance of slitting equipment, including monitoring knife wear and managing the knife re-sharpening/regrinding schedule. 6. Supervise compliance with OSHA safety regulations, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures on the shift. 7. Reads production job order to determine set up or adjustments to the slitter machine. 8. Reconcile coil identity for production and load coil. 9. Thread coil through slitter head, cropping non-complying material. 10. Use of production reporting system to ensure accuracy of data. 11. Direct Operator Helper how to stage coils to be processed for maximum efficiency. 12. Safely operate a forklift to stage and store material and overhead crane to transport coils to packaging. 13. Use precision when operating tools such as tape measures, micrometers, nibblers, and calipers. 14. Cross-train the Machine Operator and Helper. 15. Maintain a clean and safe workplace by applying the 5S (sort, straighten, shine, standardize and sustain working area). 16. Ensure quality inspections are being done consistently, take photos of the label, sides & front before loading and unloading the line. 17. Demonstrate ability to properly lockout all areas of slitter and dangers associated with working around the blades and knife sections of the machine. 18. Notify management of mechanical malfunctions. 19. Coordinate scheduling and production management for the GO (transformer-grade electrical steel) line. 20. SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent.Experience:
Minimum 3 years of precision experience in thin-gauge/light slitting (0.23mm class) processing, with proven expertise in zero-burr knife setting tailored to electrical steel properties, insulation coating and surface protection, and precision cut-edge control.Computer Skills:
Ability to learn computer skills.Other Skills:
Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools including their designs, uses, repairs, and maintenance. Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, and quality control. Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.Certifications:
