Job Title:
Production Technician I Job Description The Production Technician I supports the production department by assisting lead technicians with operating equipment, monitoring product quality, and handling materials. This role focuses on learning and applying established quality standards, performing routine machine checks, and packaging products while working under close supervision. Over time, the technician will develop the ability to set up machines with oversight, prioritize routine tasks to improve efficiency, troubleshoot minor production issues, and safely handle hazmat waste in compliance with safety procedures. Responsibilities Support lead-level technicians in daily production activities under close supervision. Learn and apply established quality standards, including how to check for defects on the production line. Perform hourly checks of machines to monitor performance and identify potential issues. lReview and follow the quality process, identifying quality issues with oversight from lead technicians. Prepare products for processing by wrapping, labeling, and packaging materials according to specifications. Load and unload products from equipment safely and efficiently. Set up and operate machines for advanced composite materials with full oversight from lead technicians. Perform basic machine setup, operation, and minor troubleshooting under guidance. Conduct quality control checks to ensure products meet standards and contain no defects. Handle material movement and lifting of up to approximately 55 pounds of materials. Use hand tools and equipment as required for production, assembly, and compounding tasks. Follow written and verbal instructions for machine operation and production tasks. Escalate equipment and production issues promptly by notifying the lead, supervisor, or designee. Adhere to all safety procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Dispose of hazmat waste safely and correctly in designated areas after training. Maintain work areas in a neat, orderly, and safe condition. Work collaboratively with team members and contribute to a team-oriented environment. Embrace continuous improvement practices to enhance overall production efficiency and quality. Perform other duties as assigned by the lead, supervisor, or designee. Be available to work overtime, weekends, and off shifts when needed to support production demands. Essential Skills Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. At least 3 months of experience working with composites or in a production environment (preferred). Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn machine operation and basic troubleshooting. Experience in general production, assembly line work, or general labor under close supervision. Ability to perform quality inspection, including defect identification and hourly machine checks. Basic machine setup and operation skills with oversight. Material handling experience, including packaging, wrapping, labeling, and lifting up to approximately 55 pounds. Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions for machine operation and production tasks. Math skills sufficient to pass a math test during the interview process. Ability to convert grams to pounds accurately. Basic computer skills to support production and quality processes. High attention to detail to check for defects and maintain quality standards. Ability to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team. Commitment to maintaining work areas in a neat, orderly, and safe manner. Capability to use personal protective equipment and follow safety procedures. Reliable attendance and the ability to work overtime, weekends, and off shifts as needed. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience in production, machine operation, or entry-level production support is beneficial. Experience working with advanced composite materials is a plus. Experience with inspection, quality control, and defect identification in a manufacturing setting. Familiarity with mixing, compounding, and packaging processes. Comfort using hand tools in a production or assembly environment. Exposure to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) or similar quality systems. Ability to perform heavy lifting consistently and safely. Strong sense of responsibility for safety, including hazmat waste handling after training. Team-oriented mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and process efficiency. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a manufacturing and production environment that operates multiple shifts. Available schedules include a Day Shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., a Swing Shift from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and a Night Shift from 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. The night shift trains on the day shift for approximately two months before transitioning to its regular schedule. Work typically runs Monday through Friday, with the possibility of overtime, weekends, and off shifts as needed. The environment involves working around production machinery, advanced composite materials, and packaging equipment. Employees regularly perform material handling tasks and must be capable of lifting up to 55 pounds. Personal protective equipment is required, and safety procedures, including proper hazmat waste disposal, are strictly followed. The workspace is maintained in a neat, orderly, and safe condition, and team members are expected to adhere to established safety and quality standards at all times. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fairfield, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $24.15/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
